Chapter 6
Just as I was about to get a full night’s sleep, someone with no sense of boundaries disturbed my
peace.
The noise downstairs grew louder and louder. Annoyed, I pushed away Remington, who was hanging on me like a koala. He also heard the commotion downstairs and grumbled discontentedly,
“Who is it? Call the security to throw them out.”
I sneered and then got out of bed, putting on my clothes. “It seems that your famous ex–girlfriend
has come to settle the score with me.”
Remington instantly opened his eyes and immediately scrambled out of the door, following me.
As I had expected, downstairs were not only Katherine and her daughter Duffy crying, but also Remington’s mother, my long–unseen mother–in–law.
Allison, who had the habit of waking up early, was caught red–handed by them and stood bewildered on the side.
Finally, when they saw me, their eyes lit up, as if they had seen a savior.
I calmly walked down the stairs, shielding Allison behind me, as I faced three intense gazes that seemed to want to devour me.
Remington stepped forward and positioned himself behind me.
Katherine was greatly stimulated by this scene, looking unsteady and watching Remington with a pained and incredulous expression, as if someone had betrayed her. She truly lived up to her reputation as a leading actress, and almost made me believe it.
Katherine covered her chest and cried out, “Kassidy, I didn’t know what my Duffy did to you, why did you have to put her to death!”
With that, everyone’s gaze shifted towards Duffy, who was wrapped in bandages.
I furrowed my brow, feeling a bit puzzled. It shouldn’t be like this, she actually had the strength to stand up. Did I not hit her hard enough?
Remington probably thought of the same thing as me, and he looked at Duffy with surprise, then looked at me, as if he was amazed at how my combat power had deteriorated.
I cleared my throat and said, “She bullied my daughter first, and I just hit her back as it was, shouldn’t that be considered excessive?”
Remington slowly added, “I didn’t think it was excessive at all.”
Katherine was even more devastated and cried, “Remington, don’t you understand how I treated Allison for the past five years? I considered her as my own daughter. Wake up! Don’t let yourself be
deceived by some woman who knows where she came from!”
Keely also lamented beside, “Remington, I know you have never been able to forget Kassidy, but
people cannot come back to life. Even if you find a replacement who looks just like her, it won’t change the fact that Kassidy has already passed away!”
Remington sneered, “So you let a woman who came out of nowhere bully your own granddaughter by inviting her into the house?”
Keely confidently said, “Katherine is someone I watched grow up, and I know her well. Do I not
let understand who she is? You need to provide evidence when you speak. If you don’t believe me, Allison speak for herself!”
After saying that, she cast a sharp gaze at Allison and said sternly, “Allison! I never expected that you, at such a young age, would learn to deceive people. Tell me, what exactly happened!”
I held Allison’s hand and whispered, “It’s okay to speak up, Mom and Dad are here to protect you.”
Allison seemed to have gained courage and shouted at Keely, “Keely! I have told you a long time ago, it was you who didn’t believe! Katherine and Duffy bullied me for five years!”
She rolled up her pants and sleeves, revealing various sizes of dark purple bruises that crisscrossed her fair skin. Some areas were clearly old wounds that had not yet healed, while others were fresh
injuries.
Keely was taken aback when she saw it, but in the end, she stubbornly said, “It’s obvious that you fell by yourself, so stop blaming others…”
Remington couldn’t take it anymore and shouted, “Enough! Nobody is a fool! Mom, Allison is your own granddaughter, and I can only trust you to take care of her. Is this how you treat Kassidy?”
Keely was startled by Remington and immediately shouted back as if she had gone mad, “Remington! Who do you think I’m doing this for?”
“You used to put on a half–hearted and ghostly appearance every day, not knowing what you were doing all day in the monastery.”
“I really can’t understand what’s so good about that Kassidy. If you didn’t have money back then, do you think she would have come to save you?”
There are women like her everywhere, so what makes Katherine worse than her? Allison will
eventually get married, whether she gets slapped or not. It’s about time you have a son, that’s what really matters. Do you understand at all?
Remington was furious, trembling all over. I pushed him aside and stood in front of Keely, looking at her intently as I said, “When I rescued Remington, I never once thought of marrying him because
of it.”
“It was only because you all swore solemnly in front of me that I agreed to marry him.”
“How did it suddenly become my fault now? You need to understand that it was not my decision to have a boy or a girl, it was your son’s decision. I have not done anything wrong to you and my daughter.”
Keely stared at my face, as if finally realizing something, and looked at Remington in disbelief. Tears fell one by one.
