Chapter 5
Remington was found standing outside the door, with his head lowered like a guardian. It was
unclear how much of the previous conversation he had heard.
I gave him a cold look and then turned sideways to go downstairs.
Remington followed closely behind me, like a misbehaving child.
He whispered.
“I didn’t know about Katherine and her daughter bullying Allison. My mom told me that she was my distant cousin, and I thought they were just staying with us to keep Allison company. When I came back last month, I noticed something was wrong, and I immediately kicked them out. I know it’s too late for me to say anything now, but I beg you, you can slap me twice if you want, just please don’t
leave me…”
As he kept talking, his eyes turned red again, while I sat on the sofa.
He knelt in front of me, his knees giving way, burying his face in the palm of my hand, and sobbed, “I missed you so much. There were countless times when I wished I could be with you, but thinking about Allison, I had to hold on.”
I sighed and touched his head, helplessly saying, “I heard that you became a monk too?”
He wrapped his arms around my waist, burying his head in my embrace, and said in a somewhat gloomy tone, “The media is just talking nonsense. I was just meditating in the Meditation Area. It’s the only way I can cope, otherwise I would have broken down long ago…”
“Where did you go?” I asked. “Allison said you disappeared for five years.”
The Remington in my arms clearly paused for a moment, and then held me even tighter.
I didn’t urge him either, just quietly waiting for his answer.
It had been a long time, but Remington still hadn’t told me anything. He just kept shaking his head. I lowered my eyelids and gently wiped away the tears from the corner of his eyes, saying, “If you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine. But Remington, our daughter has turned out like this now, and you can’t have no responsibility at all.”
Remington gritted his teeth and said, “I would not let Katherine go.”
I nodded and continued, “You were not a good father. After all this is settled, I will consider taking Allison abroad.”

Remington let out another sob upon hearing it, but I ignored him and got up to return to my own
room.
Remington quickly followed me into the room, still wearing that stubborn and clingy expression, refusing to let go of me.
I rolled my eyes and resisted the urge to kick him off the bed, saying, “He’s almost forty, why does he still look like a child?”
Remington held me and his hands restlessly reached into my clothes, but I slapped them away. He then buried his head in the crook of my neck, saying, “I’m afraid that if I open my eyes, you’ll be
gone again.”
I sighed and gently embraced him, comforting him like I had just comforted Allison, saying, “I
won’t leave again.”
Remington and I were childhood friends, growing up together in a large courtyard.
They were a pair of inseparable partners in the circle, specialized in dealing with all kinds of defiance, and passionate about gallantly helping others everywhere they went.
I couldn’t stand the teacher who bullied female students, so I put cockroaches in his cup.
He saved the bullied child from the street thug, and I took care of putting the thug in the hospital.
Until later, when the Maxwell Group became prosperous, Remington had to follow his parents and
move to Cyressth.
He tightly held my hand as we were leaving. Even when his parents hit him, he refused to let go.
Finally, when no one was paying attention, I kissed him on the cheek and we agreed to meet at Cyressth in college. He then let go of my hand with a silly smile and got on the car, looking back
three times.
Just when I hadn’t even waited for me to be admitted to Cyressth University, I heard the news of Remington being kidnapped.
I heard our secret code, exclusive to me and Remington, in the threat video released by the
kidnappers.
So, on a dark and stormy night, I stole my father’s prized sword and stun gun, and went alone to the hideout of the kidnappers, and rescued Remington.
Afterwards, my parents held me and cried, blaming me for being too impulsive. But I knew, I was prepared to go down with the kidnappers.

I could tell that no matter whether his parents gave the ransom or not, the kidnappers would kill Remington, so I had to quickly rescue him.
After that incident, Jared Maxwell and Keely Watson almost immediately got engaged. It was only natural for me to marry Remington after I graduated from college. The following year, I accidentally got pregnant and tragically died on the operating table due to an amniotic fluid embolism. And then, it was 15 years later.
My intuition has always been accurate, just like when I decided to go alone to the kidnappers‘ hideout and knew that I would definitely succeed in rescuing Remington, or when I closed my eyes on the operating table and felt that I would not easily leave this world.
The five years during which Remington disappeared must have been related to my rebirth.
I was not in a hurry, sooner or later I would figure it out.
