Chapter 8
In the center of the crowd, familiar shouts echoed.
“What did I ever do to you? Letting you use me and my brother as your playthings? This is our idea of a broken leg? There’s not a scratch on you! I must have been blind for these five years! Don’t let me see you again!”
Trevor was angrier than the day we had our fight, reaching a level of rage that seemed beyond control.
Opposite him, Selena stood there with the bandages falling apart and dragging on the floor, while her ankle had no visible wounds.
Her once gentle demeanor had vanished, revealing a twisted, terrifying visage.
“Everything you did was voluntary! My five years of youth aren’t worth anything? That’s what I deserved! Stop pretending to be innocent in front of me!”
“I know exactly what you and Stefan are up to! Don’t think I’m as foolish as Catherine and Emily. They’re two idiots!”
Trevor’s anger was palpable, the veins on his neck were clearly throbbing.
In the next moment, he threw a thick stack of papers right at Selena’s face in front of
everyone.
I had never seen him so ruthless towards her.
The onlookers quickly parted, creating a path as he stormed toward me.
The moment he saw me, his furious expression evaporated, replaced by a forced smile.
“Cathy, can we talk?”
Remembering the divorce, I nodded in agreement.
Chapter 8
Once the crowd dispersed, I finished paying and walked with him to the corner of the stairs.
Before I could say a word, he slapped himself hard across the face.
“I’m sorry. I’m really sorry for the past four years.”
Trevor slowly lifted his eyes, the once sharp gaze now bloodshot and filled with despair.
The once–respected CEO of Abney Group looked utterly disheveled at that moment.
His voice trembled as he spoke, “I had no idea she was this kind of person. If it weren’t for my mom investigating her, I’d still be in the dark. Everything online–that was her doing. She never intended for me and Stefan to go to the wedding.”
“I found out too late. I’m sorry for the past four years; she even forged your dad’s medical records and documents. That’s why I thought it was your scam to marry me. I needed a way to keep my family quiet, so I never exposed you. I also had a bad attitude toward you. I…
“Enough. No need to say more.”
I interrupted his confession softly.
At this point, it was all too late for words.
No wonder Mrs. Abney hadn’t made a fuss when she heard about my divorce.
Clearly, being the hostess of Abney family was no simple task.
Selena’s tricks were nothing in front of her.
As long as it didn’t affect the Abney family directly, she would turn a blind eye.
Now that things were spiraling out of control, she acted quickly and decisively.
Trevor, unwilling to accept, insisted on explaining, “She staged the leaking pipes, the peeling ceiling, the neighbor harassment; everything was her act. I was genuinely deceived!”
“My brother too. Believe me, I could never look at her again. Please, let’s not get divorced, alright?”
