Chapter 8
My eyes stung, and I slapped him hard. “Zachary, stop being insane.”
Gianna screamed and rushed forward to hurl insults at me, “You wretched woman, how dare you slap Zachary! Did you make him break up with me? He loved me so much, and
you took him from me!”
I slapped her in return, saying, “Not only did I hit him, but I’m hitting you too!” Now that I’d severed ties with Zachary, I didn’t need to tolerate anyone associated with him.
Gianna held her cheek in disbelief, her voice trembling. “You actually dared to hit me?”
I promptly slapped her again. “Yes, I dared to hit you. Do I need to pick a special day?”
Both sides of her face were red and swollen like a pig’s head, and she lunged at me in a frenzy, claws reaching for my face. Hector stepped in front of me, grabbing her hand. “Miss, please calm down. If this continues, I’ll call the police.”
Not wanting to get tangled up with these people any longer, I took Hector’s hand and turned to leave. Zachary suddenly strode forward and grabbed my hand. “Camila, are you really going with him?”
I replied coldly, “Let go!”
Zachary kept his grip, unmoving, and said in a low voice, “If you dare to leave, I won’t let you off.”
I mustered the strength to yank his hand away, leaving without a backward glance.
In the car, Hector was still dazed, muttering, “That guy really looks like Zack. Is he Zachary, the CEO of Creat Star Tech?” Then he looked at me slowly, hesitating as he asked, “Camila, did you get involved with him because he looks like Zack?”
I didn’t know how to respond, so I kept my eyes down and stayed silent. He sighed, a hint of sadness and pity in his voice. “Zack’s been gone for ten years now. It’s time for you to move
- on.

I shook my head with a smile. But I don’t have a future left. That’s why I willingly trapped myself in the past–because that’s where my Zack still is.
The area where I lived was in the old part of the city, with narrow, winding roads that mad
it difficult to drive in at night. I asked Hector to drop me off at the corner so I could walk th rest of the way alone. Hector looked down the dimly lit street and reluctantly agreed,
saying, “Let me walk with you for a bit.”
I gently refused, “There’s no place to park here, and I’ve walked this path many times–it’s
fe.”
With no other choice, he sighed and said, “Be careful then. Send me a message when you’re
home.”
I nodded, turned, and left.
Most of the residents in my building were retired teachers, so by nine o’clock, the hallways were already very quiet. As I reached the fifth floor, the motion–sensor light flickered on, and suddenly, a tall figure appeared in front of me. Before I could make out his face, he covered my mouth and nose, and I lost consciousness.
