Chapter 9: I Don’t Believe It
“No! She can’t be dead!”
Jonah’s voice was hoarse as he stared in disbelief at the crazed woman before him.
“You’re lying to me…”
Lillian seemed lost in her memories, murmuring to herself, “I didn’t want her to die, not even two years ago. I kidnapped her back then too, but she foolishly tried to call you for help. I had no choice but to sever her tendons.. But she was so lucky; that Colin found her
again and took her away.”
“But now, she was becoming more and more of a burden to you. She never should have
fallen in love with you. She had to die!”
Jonah, unable to control his trembling hand, slapped her hard across the face. The police quickly restrained him.
As Lillian was being taken away, she turned back with a swollen face, smiling bitterly. “Jonah, you’re free now. She’ll never come looking for you again.”
Jonah roared like a beast, clutching his head as if his mind were exploding.
As the bloody memories resurfaced, he felt a searing pain deep in his soul.
He remembered how two years ago, when he had received a call from the kidnappers, he
had searched for Sabrina for two days and nights, only to find her with Colin. Blinded by
jealousy, he hadn’t noticed the unnatural state of her wrists.
He hadn’t noticed Sabrina’s pale face or the forced lightness in her voice.
During that time, the company had been in crisis, and he had been overwhelmed with
work. Sabrina must have endured all that pain alone, not wanting to distract him.
She had always thought of him, but all he had given her was blame and scorn.
As Jonah reflected on the past, he realized that it was always him who believed in Lillian’s innocence, always him who refused to believe in Sabrina, always him who hurt her over

Jonah moved like a lifeless body, as if he couldn’t hear what she was saying Without expression, he got out of bed and dialed Sabrina’s number again.

Jonah roared like a lion on the verge of breaking, refusing to believe Sabrina was gone.
But Colin remained unmoved.
“Sabrina is dead, Jonah. Are you satisfied now?”
Jonah was overwhelmed with a mixture of shock and anger. Why did everyone keep asking

Colin let out a cold laugh and began to describe the scene from that day in a flat voice.
