Chapter 10
Gralin’s view:
I’d met Isata the day her father saved my life. Someone had been throwing things from a
high–rise, and I’d been standing directly below. He’d pushed me out of the way, taking the
blow himself. I was unharmed, but he was knocked unconscious, bleeding profusely, A
Isata rushed over, collapsing beside him, her sobs tearing at my heart. I’d driven him to the
hospital, my hands shaking.
He’d ended up in the ICU, in a coma. When he finally woke up, he was… different. A child
trapped in a man’s body.
Guilt consumed me. I paid for everything, helped Isata care for him. It was the least I could
- do. He’d saved my life.
Every night, I woke up in a cold sweat, imagining what would have happened if he hadn’t
been there.
After six months, he’d regained consciousness. But his mind… it was gone.
I repeated the words over and over, “I’m so sorry, Isata.”
I took him to my family’s estate, hired nurses, and cared for him myself.
One day, I confessed my feelings to Isata. I’d fallen in love with her kindness, her strength. And she, after watching me care for her father for six months, agreed to be with me.
For the next five years, I dedicated myself to Isata and her father. But a nagging doubt lingered in my mind was it love, or just guilt?
Then Harlynn, my new secretary, arrived. She was beautiful, vivacious… different from
Isata.
I fell into an affair. But out of guilt for Isata, I never crossed certain lines.

He’d been faking it all along! Playing the role of a mentally disabled man for five years! Helping Tanta climb the social laddert
I was furious, but he’d saved my life. I couldn’t send him to prison. Harlynn suggested we take him to a remote mountain aren, leave him there for a few days, teach him a lesson. I was impressed by her compassion. Even after what he’d done, she didn’t want to see him
nished.
The day after we left him in the mountains, Isata barged into a crucial meeting, claiming her father was dead, enten by wolves. It was ridiculous! Harlynn had assured me there were no dangerous animals in those mountains!
Isata was being irrational. Her father refused to apologize, so she had to take responsibility.
I forced her to kneel, to apologize to Harlynn, but she stubbornly refused. I was disappointed. After all I’d done for her family, she couldn’t even offer a simple apology.
Then Harlynn was attacked again, brutally whipped. The video appeared online.
She spiraled into a deep depression, attempting suicide multiple times. I was livid. They would pay for this.
But Isata had disappeared, taking her father with her. She was running away, hiding from the consequences. I found her in London, demanding she bring her father back.
She insisted he was dead.
Desperate, I hired someone to… bully her. But no matter what we did, her father didn’t
appear.
Then my assistant called.
Her father was dead. Eaten by wolves.
The world seemed to tilt on its axis.
What have I done?
