Chapter 4
“You’re being ridiculous, Isata,” Gralin said, his voice laced with irritation. “Your father is
not dead. Stop with these crazy stories.”
I dropped Harlynn’s hair, my voice trembling. “He was eaten by wolves. There’s nothing
left.”
“Don’t be absurd! Harlynn checked the area – there are no dangerous animals in those mountains!” he snapped.
I laughed, a bitter, humorless sound. “You believe everything she says? Have you lost
your
mind, Gralin?”
He rubbed his temples, his voice cold. “You’re the one who’s lying, Isata. Just like your
father. He played the victim to get ahead, to make me feel guilty. I’ve spent five years,
wasted five years, trying to make amends! I thought I’d finally repaid my debt, but I never
realized he was so… malicious! And you! I never knew you were so manipulative!”
His words felt like a slap in the face. Dad had saved his life, and this was how he repaid us?
I didn’t even bother to argue.
Dad, are you watching? This is the man you saved.
I turned and walked away.
There was nothing left for me here.
I requested a transfer to the London office, and thankfully, it was approved.
Three days after arriving in London, I had two unexpected visitors.
I stared at Gralin and Harlynn. “Why are you here?“.
They barged in, opened my laptop, and typed in a strange URL.
A video started playing.
