Chapter 9
Alex’s face grow increasingly pole as he was bombarded with questions, Perick dieded me and tried to push through the crowd to leave, Alez desperately reached forward again, but tripped over the crowd and accidentally hit his front tooth. Ignoring the blood on his face, he only focused on trying to stop me, blurting out without restraine “Enter I was wrong! She tricked met She kept saying she loved me, but she was just trying to get close to
ou through me, to keep tabs on you!”
Keep tabs on me?
I looked at him suspiciously, stopping in my tracks, Patrick rushed over and grathed him, lifting him off the ground. Alex flailed in panic, grasping at the air: “What do you mean, keeping tabs on Ember? Explain yourself clearly! Was it you and that woman who hit Uncle
Carter back then?”
In his panic, Alex hastily denied: “It wasn’t me, it was her! She had been drinking that day and hit someone. I only helped her escape because there were no cameras at the time. I really didn’t hit your dad, I went to the hospital just to check on his condition…
Alex was thrown back to the ground, immediately realizing he shouldn’t have said those things, but it was too late.
Even after Patrick drove me home, I was still shaking uncontrollably.
Seven years. Not only had I been his doormat for seven years, but I had also used my father’s hard–earned money to fund the extravagant lifestyle of these two who had nearly killed him! I wanted to slap myself hard.
I looked helplessly at Patrick. He pulled me into his arms, gently comforting me: “It’s pretty
much in line with what Uncle Carter and I investigated. Uncle Carter didn’t want to pursue it, fearing you’d blame yourself. Now that you know anyway!”
“Sue them, help me sue them. I want them to go to jail. These two scumbags, they deserve to die…” I cried loudly in his arms.
On the day of the trial, I learned the whole truth from Alex and Nadia’s mutual accusations.

Chapter 9
Years ago, after Nadia hit my father while drunk driving, Alex helped her flee the sehe Later, worried, he secretly went to the hospital to check on my father’s condition.
Patrick had left to catch his flight, and I mistakenly believed Alex was my father’s savior. Nadia took the opportunity to demand that Alex stay by my side to constantly monitor the
situation.
Alex, fearing Nadia would be discovered by the police, used the money my father gave him
to send her abroad.
No wonder such a large sum of money disappeared without Alex spending it.
Six years passed, and I had no doubts about this. Nadia returned to the country, becoming dissatisfied with Alex not being able to accompany her constantly, and frequently provoked
- me.
Finally, I let go, and her possessive nature lost its competitor, gradually becoming boring.
She never really liked Alex much; it was just that before, Alex used his family’s money to
support her, and later he used my money.
When I no longer wanted Alex, and Alex had no more money, she lost interest in the
competition.
She quickly abandoned Alex.
It was only then that Alex realized my worth and wanted to come back, but it was all too
late.
The two finally turned on each other, tearing into one another.
I was such a fool. I was just a pawn in their relationship game.
Patrick doesn’t handle criminal cases, but together with my dad, they used their resources to find the best lawyer. In the end, Nadia was sentenced to the maximum of seven years for
drunk driving and hit–and–run.
Alex was also sentenced to 3 years.
As I walked out of the courtroom, Alex howled and begged behind me: “Ember, wait for me.

Wait for me to come out and make it up to you! I know I was wrong…”
I couldn’t be bothered with him.
I hope these two murderers can spend the rest of their lives in prison, living days without seeing the sun and without hope.
Walking out of the courthouse, sunlight pierced through layers of clouds. Through the misty light, I saw my parents standing not far away, waiting for me. Patrick had already houghtfully opened the car door for me.
I looked back at the solemn stone pillars, then turned and walked towards them.
A foolish chapter of my life had finally ended. Waiting for me was a better future ahead.
