Chapter 10: A Day to Remember
They finished breakfast in comfortable silence, their eyes meeting every now and then, a silent understanding passing between them.
Amelia cleared her throat. “So, I was thinking, maybe we could, you know…”
than looked up, his expression mirroring hers. “I was thinking the same thing. Maybe we
could… go on a date?”
They both spoke at the same time, then burst out laughing.
Amelia had never been on a proper date, at least not with Mark. He always claimed to be too busy. “What’s the point?” he’d say dismissively. “We’re not kids. You’re telling me you want to go to an amusement park? Seriously?”
Yet, she distinctly remembered him taking Vivian to amusement parks all the time before she moved abroad. He even rode rollercoasters with her, even though he claimed to hate
them.
But Ethan, he was different. He spent the entire day with her at the amusement park, laughing and joking, holding her hand on the rides, his eyes sparkling with happiness.
“Are you having fun?” he asked, wiping a smudge of ice cream from her cheek.
“Best. Date. Ever.”
“Ready for more?” he asked, his eyes twinkling with mischief. “Or are you tired?”
Amelia clutched her stomach dramatically. “I’m starving! I could eat a horse!”
Ethan threw his head back and laughed, gently bumping his forehead against hers. “A horse it is then! Or… how about your favorite? Steak?”
He took her hand, leading her towards the parking lot. As she walked beside him, Amelia felt a warmth spread through her chest. Dating Ethan was so easy, so natural. She finally
understood what it meant to be with someone who truly cared for her.

Dinner was… perfect. The restaurant was cozy, the food delicious, and Ethan… well, he was
perfect.
Just as they were about to dig in, Amelia heard a familiar voice.
“Mark, honey, is something wrong? You barely touched your food. You’ve been so out of
sorts lately.”
Amelia’s heart sank. It was Vivian and Mark.
She tried to ignore them, but Vivian noticed them and sauntered over, feigning surprise.
“Amelia? What are you doing here?”
Mark followed, his face hardening when he saw Ethan. “Have some decency. Do you really think this is appropriate?”
Amelia raised her glass of water and splashed it in his face. “I’ll go wherever I please.”
Vivian gasped, rushing to dab at Mark’s face with a napkin. “Amelia, what are you doing?
This is a couples–only restaurant! He was just looking out for you! Why are you being such a child?”
Amelia laughed humorlessly. “A couples–only restaurant? Even more reason for me to be
here, then.” She wrapped her arm around Ethan’s. “I’m here with my boyfriend. Is that a problem?”
Vivian’s lips curled into a sneer. “Oh, really? Congratulations! You moved on quickly, didn’t you? Dumped one day, new boyfriend the next.”
Amelia’s eyes narrowed. She noticed the necklace Vivian was wearing. It was the matching one to a necklace she had gifted Mark last year for his birthday. She had wanted to wear them together, but he had refused, tossing it aside.
Amelia grabbed the necklace, ripping it off Vivian’s neck. “You disgust me! First, you steal my boyfriend, and now you’re wearing my jewelry? Pathetic!” She threw the necklace at Mark’s chest and stormed off, pulling Ethan along with her.
Mark lunged for her, but Ethan intercepted him, shoving him back. As Mark swung his fist at Ethan, Amelia grabbed a metal water bottle from her bag and smashed it against his
head.

Mark cried out in pain, clutching his head, his face contorted in shock and anger. “You’re hitting me… for him?”
Amelia stood protectively in front of Ethan, her voice cold and steady. “Yes. You can protect Vivian, I can protect Ethan. I’m done being your doormat! We’re over! I suggest you move
on.”
Mark stared at her, his expression unreadable. Before he could say anything else, Amelia grabbed Ethan’s hand and dragged him out of the restaurant, leaving a stunned silence in

Ethan, or rather, Tommy, smiled, his eyes twinkling. “You remember me.”
Tears streamed down Amelia’s face as memories flooded her mind.
