Chapter 7
Bonnie looked at her parents and then Antonio, her eyes filled with unwillingness.
I noticed that Antonio clenched his hands into fists as if he was trying to suppress his emotions.
Soon, he composed himself and smiled at Bonnie’s parents.
He said, “I ran into an acquaintance and came out to say hi. Why don’t you go inside and order together with Bonnie? I’ll be right there with you.”
Hearing this, Bonnie was smug. A trace of complacency flashed across her eyes as she mouthed to me, “I won.”
Then she led her parents back to the restaurant.
After brushing them off, Antonio grabbed my hand again and pleaded, “Darling, Bonnie’s parents are getting old. Besides, her dad is in poor health. I don’t wanna make a scene when they’re present.
“I swear. It’ll just be a meal. After the meal, I’ll come to you right away. I won’t stay longer than I have to for even just a second.
“After the meal, I won’t contact her ever again. OK?”
He ran back inside without waiting for me to respond.
He knew me well enough to know I wouldn’t make things nasty when there were elders present.

As I looked at his retreating figure, I felt sad and amused at the same time.
Back in the car, I pulled out some tissues and wiped my hands which he had touched earlier. Only when it started to hurt did I stop.
Then, I picked up my phone and texted him, “Antonio, let’s get a divorce.”
Ever since the moment I found out he had been cheating on me, I knew things between us were over.
Soon enough, Antonio called me.
I didn’t answer, and he called again and again. I rejected every call.
It wasn’t that I couldn’t bear to block his number. I was just thinking that we still had to negotiate about the divorce.
After all, there were still many things to be solved, such as property division, the house, and even our mutual friends.
I didn’t want to make it so nasty. After all, we were together for years. It was just that things had come to an end.
After driving away from the hospital, I went to the City Hospital to check on my dad.
My mom was here already and was talking to him. At the sight of me, she asked me to come over and sit down.
“What’s wrong, Grace? Did something happen?”
Probably my expression gave me away. She noticed something off at once.

Her gaze lingered on my face for a few seconds as she frowned slightly, trying to find out something from my expression.

“I’m fine, Mom. How are you, Dad? Are you feeling better?” I asked.
Then I put some fruit and a bouquet of flowers I had hastily bought downstairs on the bedside table and sat down next to
my mom.
I picked the fruit randomly, and the flowers were lilies, my dad’s favorite. Its faint fragrance filled the ward soon.
Dad smiled, “Much better. Your mom is making a big deal out of it. You don’t have to come back at all. It’s nothing serious.”
Though he said so, it had been months since I last saw him. Of course, he was happy to see me.
Though his face was slightly pale, he was in pretty good spirits, which made me feel much more at ease.
“Dad, what are you talking about? I’m your daughter. Now that you’re sick, of course, I ought to come back to be with you.”
I peeled him an apple and handed it over.
He took it and took a small bite thoughtfully.
After a while, he sighed.
“If only Antonio were here. He could play chess with me.”
I suddenly felt a lump in my throat, and I almost wanted to tell them the truth.
