Chapter 10
Bonnie sent me a photo.
In the photo were two hands with fingers interlocked.
Of course, it was her hand and Antonio’s.
She was provoking me.
I stared at the photo, sneering inwardly. Her tactics were as lame as always. She really thought this could crack me?
How ridiculous.
I ignored the photo, not bothering to respond to her at all.
The more she made childish provocations like this, the more uneasy she seemed.
For the next few days, Mom and I came to the hospital together to be with Dad.
Dad’s condition had stabilized. The doctor said he was recovering well and could be discharged this weekend.
Both Mom and I were relieved. After all, these days of torture
had worn us out.
Finally, it was the weekend.
Mom and I picked him up with several bags in hand.
Dad patted my shoulder with a smile, saying, “Grace, these days must have been hard for you.”

I shook my head, feeling bitter. I hadn’t spent enough time with them before, and I just wanted to be with them for as long as I could.
Just after we walked out of the room, suddenly, a familiar voice rang out.
“It’s been a while, Grace.”
I looked up and was surprised to see Charlie Brooks.
He was wearing a simple shirt, looking as handsome as ever.
We were childhood sweethearts. He and his family lived next door since we were little and moved away during college.
It had been years since I last saw him, but he still looked so familiar.
“Charlie, you haven’t changed a bit,” I smiled, sighing with emotions.
His gaze fell on my dad, and he frowned slightly. “What’s up with Mr. Parrish?”
I briefed him about Dad’s condition, and he nodded and said with concern, “Mr. Parrish, you should get enough rest. If there’s anything I can do to help, let me know.”
Dad and Mom were also happy to see him. After all, it had been a long time.
Mom smiled, “Charlie, you’ve become even more handsome now. How’s your parents?”
“Thanks for asking, Mrs. Parrish. They’re on a trip abroad. Both are doing just fine,” Charlie answered politely.

They exchanged pleasantries, and the atmosphere was relaxed.
“What a nice coincidence. Would you join us for a meal?” Mom invited him eagerly.

They watched Charlie grow up, and he was like their son. Of course, they treated him warmly.
Charlie was about to answer when his phone rang.
He answered the call, and his expression changed slightly. Then he said to them, “I’m sorry, Mr. Parrish, Mrs. Parrish. I’ve got something to attend to. I’ll treat you to a meal someday.”
Dad and Mom were a bit disappointed and couldn’t help but sigh.
As I was about to lead them out, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Antonio not far away.
Dad and Mom brightened up as they saw him.
Antonio walked over and said to them, “I’ve arranged for a car to wait outside. And I’ve booked us a table in a restaurant,
too.”
He acted so normally with a big smile on his face as if nothing had ever happened.
Dad and Mom nodded repeatedly, apparently pleased with his arrangements.
He walked them to the car and got in.
On the way, they chatted happily, but I didn’t even want to say a single word.

The sight of him reminded me of those disgusting things he had done, and I felt so sick.
But he seemed oblivious and suddenly grabbed my hand.
I was stunned.
