Chapter 9
Late at night, Jeremy dragged his exhausted body home. This time, he didn’t choose to go to his room to sleep but went straight to Vera’s.
Slowly he lay beside Vera, holding her from behind and smelling the familiar scent of her hair. Only
then did he feel at ease.
Vera did not push him away, but asked in confusion, “Why don’t you go to your room?”
Ever since Vera left the hospital, Jeremy had been feeling restless, as if something was going to
happen.
He could only feel at ease when he was by Vera’s side, and he told her what he thought.
Vera turned around and looked into his eyes, saying, “Since that’s the case, why don’t you go with me to Heliotropia Church tomorrow? Use it as a way to find peace of mind while giving something
in return.”
Jeremy hesitated a bit because Elsa was still in the hospital. He promised her that he would go to
visit her tomorrow.
Vera saw his dilemma and coquettishly said, “Go with me once, please. Let’s take a plane there and
come back on the same day, it won’t cause any trouble.”
Jeremy couldn’t help but soften his heart as he looked at her lovely expression and, so he agreed.
The next day, Jeremy’s assistant bought them the earliest flight to Heliotropia. After their arrival, a dedicated driver picked them up and drove them to Heliotropia Church in the shortest possible
time.
After the two of them gave what they had brought to the priest there, Jeremy suggested, “Since we’ve come all this way, why don’t we write down a few wishes and hang them on the tree outside?”
After Vera agreed, Jeremy bought several red ribbons from the priest and handed them to her. Vera
took one and began writing.
Seeing her writing her wishes earnestly, Jeremy curiously leaned over. However, just as he saw a word, Vera quickly covered it with her hand and said, “Don’t look. Or it won’t come true.”
At this, Jeremy no longer insisted and reached out to rub the stray hair on her forehead.
“Vera, many had their wishes come true after coming here. All your wishes will come true.”
She smiled and nodded, fully agreeing with what he had said.
She knew that her wish would come true as she wrote, “May I never see Jeremy again for eternity.”

When she finished writing her wish, Jeremy also finished writing his. He asked the priest to help them hang up the ribbons.
Just then, Jeremy’s phone rang. He glanced at the number on the screen and hurried down the stairs
to answer the call, afraid of being heard by Vera.
Vera did not expose him, but she calmly let the priest remove the red ribbons that had just been
hung. She excused herself by saying that she had not finished writing her wish.
She looked at the wishes Jeremy had written on the red ribbon, each one wishing Elsa peace,
success, and health.
None of them were about her. At that moment, she suddenly felt relieved.
When she was about to leave, the priest stopped her and said, “The amulet that Mr. Fawcett wanted has been done. It is ready for him.”
Vera took the amulet and asked with confusion, “For whom is this amulet prayed?”
“It’s for someone called Elsa Perry. Three years ago, Mr. Fawcett sacrificed a lot to pray for her safety. I was deeply impressed by it.” The priest’s words became another blow to Vera.
The last remaining illusion she had of him was shattered.
Vera tried to calm herself down and walked towards Jeremy, handing him the amulet. Jeremy was momentarily stunned but quickly explained to her.
“It’s for Elsa. She is not in good health. Since I’m here, I thought I’d pray for her safety by the way. Vera, I hope you don’t mind. I am so concerned about her only because she is your sister.”
Vera looked at Jeremy’s flustered explanation and found it amusing. However, she didn’t expose
him.
She just shook her head, saying, “I sometimes really envy her. Even though she was born just two hours later than me, she can easily have everything I want. Everyone around me likes her unconditionally.”
Jeremy furrowed his brows, a hint of panic flickering in his eyes. “Vera, that’s not true. I only like
you.”
He was afraid that Vera would mistake him more, so he changed the topic and asked,
ra, since
you rarely come to Heliotropia, how about having some fun before leaving? I will have my assistant book your flight for tonight.”
Vera chuckled lightly and nodded at Jeremy’s proposal.
She opened her phone and Elsa’s message appeared. It read, “I know he went to Heliotropia with

you. So, what? With just a phone call from me, he can fly to Silverglade and buy the food I love. Vera, just admit it, you can never compare to me.”
“The person Jeremy loves is me from beginning to end.”
This time, Vera didn’t pretend not to see it and texted her back.
“Since you
like the garbage that I don’t want so much, then I’ll give it to you.”
After sending the message, she watched Jeremy walk further and further away until she could no longer see him. Only then did she summon the system.
“System, how soon can I leave here?”
“According to the settings, you can leave at midnight tonight. At that time, I’ll give you a brand–new identity and send you to another country to live your own life.”
Vera nodded slightly and handed her phone to the system. “Tomorrow, I want my phone to be at the wedding with the body that you find to replace me.”
She wanted Jeremy to know how Elsa, the woman he loved, had repeatedly provoked her during
these days.
She wanted him to know that when he lied to her again and left her for another woman, she killed herself by jumping into the sea.
For the rest of his life, he would be tormented and heartbroken by the moment.
She waited under the tree until midnight. The sound of the early morning clock struck, and a golden light fell upon her…
