Chapter 8
Elsa was urgently taken to the hospital. When she was being loaded into the ambulance, Jeremy also picked up Vera, who had fallen to the ground, and took her into the ambulance, too.
He was well aware of Elsa’s physical condition. After explaining the situation to the doctor involved in the emergency treatment, he finally turned his gaze to Vera.
“Vera, Elsa is bleeding heavily and needs a blood transfusion. Don’t be afraid! Elsa will be fine after receiving your blood.”
Vera coldly looked at the man in front of her, who only cared about Elsa, and this time, she was unusually calm.
She remembered that three years ago when she had a car accident and fell into a coma, Jeremy, who never believed in God, prayed for the first time.
He drove alone for over a thousand kilometers to the Heliotropia Church, praying for her safety.
Later, when she woke up from unconsciousness and saw Jeremy’s swollen forehead, she felt heartbroken with tears streaming down her face.
Jeremy quickly held her in his arms and repeatedly said, “Vera, don’t cry. I’ll do whatever it takes to get you better, even if it means losing my life.”
But hearing these words, Vera cried
harder.
Since then, she completely let her guard down, allowing herself to sink into his tenderness. When she completely fell in love with him, she found that it was just a premeditated hoax.
He was so afraid of losing her because she was the only person in the world who could save Elsa.
He was willing to die for love and to give up everything for love, but the one he had been willing to fight for all along was Elsa rather than her.
The ambulance arrived at the hospital within a short time. Elsa was pushed into the operating
room, while Vera was taken to the blood collection room.
This time, she didn’t want to sacrifice herself again to save Elsa. As soon as the nurse was about to draw blood, she withdrew her arm.
“I don’t want to do it.”
With that, she got up and limped towards the door with difficulty.
Seeing Vera coming out, Jeremy asked with a puzzled look on his face, “What’s wrong?”
Vera coldly replied, “I don’t want to do it.”

Hearing these few words, Jeremy, who was originally calm, became furious. This was the first time Vera refused to give Elsa her blood, and it was also the first time he got angry at Vera.
“Vera, stop it! Even if you have grievances in your heart, you shouldn’t cause a scene now. Elsa is waiting for you to save her life in the operating room! Please, I beg you, stop it, okay?”
Vera glanced down at her swollen ankle and then looked up to see Jeremy, who was furious. Suddenly, she didn’t want to say anything anymore.
She sneered lightly, turned around, and entered the blood collection room. She then quietly lay
down on the bed.
She closed her eyes in pain and silently said in her heart, “Jeremy, this is the last time I have helped you save Elsa. This is to pay you back for saving my life, and from now on, we’ll be even.”
The blood was drawn from her body so quickly that she felt dizzy and gradually lost consciousness.
Before she completely went into a coma, she heard the voice of Jeremy even though he deliberately
lowered his voice.
“200 cc more blood this time.‘
”
“Isn’t this against the rules, Mr. Fawcett?” the nurse asked. However, Jeremy replied, “The patient inside is bleeding too much, and the normal amount of blood is simply not enough. It’s okay! Do as I
say! I’ll take care of it if anything happens.
”
Vera felt a chill all over her body. She couldn’t believe that the man she had loved for five years was now sacrificing her to save another woman.

She was a little curious about how Jeremy would look like when he saw her “corpse” appearing at
the wedding a few days later.
With this thought, she fell into a deep sleep.
Waking up again, she found herself lying in the bed next to Elsa’s.
She slowly got up, supported herself on the edge of the bed, and then pulled out the IV needle, preparing to get out of bed and leave.
Elsa stopped her and said, “Vera, haven’t you realized that Jeremy loves me? Last time, he left you just because of a few words I said. I wasn’t sick the day you tried on your wedding dress. Do you
day
think he wouldn’t have noticed that as a doctor? But instead of trying to expose me, h as willing
to play along. Isn’t this love?”
Vera couldn’t understand. “From childhood, Elsa took away everything I had, including my parents‘ favoritism, the boy I initially had a crush on, and now my fiancé.
“Why can’t she let me off? Why does she have to show that off in front of me?”

favoritism, the boy I initially had a crush on, and now my fiancé,
“Why can’t she let me off? Why does she have to show that off in front of me?”
She then asked Elsa the question that kept bothering her.
Elsa sneered coldly, not hiding her true thoughts in the slightest, “For no reason at all! I just want to see you in pain. Blame yourself for being too healthy. I want everything that belongs to you.
That’s the price you pay for taking my health,”
Vera furrowed her brows and felt speechless at the moment. She was about to retort when Jeremy pushed open the door to the ward and walked in.
In just a moment, the provocative expression on Elsa’s face was replaced by an innocent and
vulnerable look.
She sobbed and whispered, “I’m sorry, Vera. It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t broken my forehead, you
wouldn’t have had to give me a blood transfusion.”
Jeremy glanced at Elsa with a pitiful look and then immediately shifted his gaze to Vera.
He softly said, “Vera, are you feeling better?”
Vera nodded slightly and said, “I’m fine. I just need to go back and get some rest.”
Hearing her words, Jeremy immediately called Jason, asking him to prepare some tonic for her.
Then he asked the driver to bring the car to the entrance of the hospital.
He arranged everything within such a short time that Vera didn’t have time to refuse. But on second
thought, she remembered that she would be gone for good in a few days, and she didn’t want to say
anything more to him. After all, she would never eat the tonic again in the future.
With this in mind, she did not dwell on the matter but accepted his kindness, saying, “Then I will go back and get some rest first. Goodbye!”
Vera looked indifferent, showing no trace of blame. It seemed as if she didn’t care at all about
Jeremy’s harsh words towards her to save Elsa.
This instead made Jeremy feel a little uneasy, but soon he felt that he was overthinking.
When Vera was about to leave, she hugged Jeremy and reminded him to come back home early.
The nurses who came in to do the rounds at that time saw the two of them hugging eac her with envy in their eyes. Later, in the corridor, they whispered, “Mr. Fawcett is good to Ms. Perry. The two have been together for five years and still seem like a young couple in love.”
“How lucky Ms. Perry is. I wonder when I can meet such a man like that.”

Jeremy also clearly heard the conversation between the two, and he tightened his grip on Vera’s
hand a little more.
Only Vera knew that Jeremy was doing this now just because he was afraid that she would become suspicious and throw a new twist on the coming wedding.
Jeremy sent Vera into the car and touched her head.
Then he gently said, “Vera, take a good rest. When you are fully recovered, next month I will take you abroad to have fun.”
Vera grinned and did not respond. Instead, she asked the driver to go.
She looked at Jeremy further and further away in the rearview mirror and laughed at herself
self–mockingly.
“Next month?
There is no next month for us.‘
