Chapter 7
Vera sneered and retorted, “No way!”
Tired of dealing with them, Vera shook off Andrew’s hand and walked straight towards the door, but she was suddenly pulled back.
The force was so strong that it made her lose her balance, and she fell heavily to the ground.
The loud noise caught Jeremy’s attention away from Elsa. He hadn’t even walked over to help Vera up when Andrew raised his hand, intending to slap Vera. However, the slap landed on Elsa’s face.
Elsa lost her balance and fell forward, hitting her forehead on the corner of the table, causing small, dense drops of blood to flow.
In an instant, the room was filled with voices of panic.
“Oh, my God! Quickly call an ambulance!”
“Hold on, Elsa!”
“What did I do? What’s going on here?”
Andrew hammered his thigh in frustration, unable to accept everything in front of him.
Jeremy was the first to react and laid Elsa flat. He instructed the nanny to bring some gauze to stop the bleeding for her.
Because of a lack of blood coagulation factors, Elsa couldn’t stop the bleeding on her own. Seeing the blood keep flowing, Jeremy collapsed and shouted in despair.
“Hurry up! Call an ambulance!”
Elsa’s face grew even paler, and she weakly looked at Andrew, softly saying, “Dad, it’s not Vera’s fault. She’s been through a lot since she was a kid because of me. I don’t want her to get hurt because of me anymore, okay?”
Andrew’s eyes turned red with self–blame. To calm Elsa down, he didn’t say anything but just
nodded.
Then, she licked her chapped lips and looked at Jeremy with deep affection in her eyes.
Then she said while sobbing, “Jeremy, I am so scared. Will I die? I don’t want to die. I‘
scared.”

Jeremy’s tears fell on Elsa’s face. He knelt on the ground and embraced Elsa tightly.
“Elsa, don’t worry! As long as I am here, I will make sure nothing happens to you. You have to trust
me.”

Elsa nodded with her hands wrapping around Jeremy’s neck. Their breaths intertwined, creating an extremely ambiguous atmosphere.
Jeremy was trying his best not to kiss her, and his fingertips holding her were trembling slightly.
Elsa glanced at Vera, and a meaningful smile showed up at the corner of her mouth as if she had seen through Jeremy and was showing off to Vera.
“Look! Jeremy chose me once again. Others say he loves you so much, but in reality, the person he truly loves is me.”
A sudden surge of indescribable sorrow welled up in Vera’s heart. She felt sad about the efforts she had put in over the past few years.
But this feeling was soon forcefully suppressed by her.
“It doesn’t matter. This will all be over soon!”
