Chapter 25
Elsa hadn’t even gotten close to the woman when Jeremy shoved her hard, his face full of rage as he grabbed her by the neck and slammed her against the wall.
“Elsa, as long as I’m here, you’ll never hurt Vera again. This is your last warning–if you lay a finger on her, I’ll take your life!”
After saying that, he left Elsa, who was pale and shaking, and took the girl’s hand, walking out of
the banquet hall.
Elsa collapsed against the wall and sat on the floor, taking a while to catch her breath and come
back to her senses.
She couldn’t believe that Jeremy, who had once cared for her much, just tried to choke her to death!
Fear made her shake uncontrollably. She tried to get up and run away, but her body felt weak as if she had no strength at all. That’s when she realized something was wrong–she was bleeding and
was about to die.
She desperately pleaded for help from the people around her, but they just stood there, cold and indifferent, watching what felt like the biggest joke in the whole city without reacting.
Erik noticed Elsa was in trouble and, out of concern, called an ambulance. He knew Elsa had a rare genetic condition that caused her to bleed uncontrollably when hurt. Normal stitches wouldn’t help -only Vera’s special blood could stop the bleeding, or she’d die.
As Elsa was lifted onto a stretcher by the medical staff, the onlookers, who had been enjoying the scene, started talking about it.
Even Erik, standing nearby, couldn’t help but chat with the person next to him.
“Wasn’t it said that Jeremy cheated on his sister–in–law and that caused his fiancé’s suicide? Now he not only fights with his sister–in–law but also gets a substitute who looks nothing like his fiancé?”
The person next to him lowered his voice and whispered, “This has become an unspoken secret in the city, especially something you should never mention in front of Jeremy.”
Erik raised an eyebrow, curious, and asked, “Why?”
