Chapter 17
Elsa felt as if she had fallen into an icy cave, unable to believe this reality. She escaped at once.
Seeing Elsa leave, Lola advised, “Jeremy, since Vera is already dead, why don’t you consider Elsa? I can tell that she likes you. Besides, they are twins and look similar. So why not marry her?”
Jeremy’s eyes were as cold as ice, and he said coldly, “They are different! Completely different. Elsa
can never replace my Vera.”
Although they were twins, even though they looked so similar in appearance, they had completely different personalities.
Elsa had a rebellious and lively personality, which made her charming. She exuded a vibrant energy that drew people towards her. However, deep inside, she was filled with calculation and jealousy,
and she was selfish and narrow–minded.
Vera, on the other hand, was completely different from her. Vera was calm and introverted, with a gentle and kind nature. She was simple and had no hidden intentions, always considering others in
everything.
She was a silly girl who would hold an umbrella for snails on rainy days.
She was a kind girl who would feed stray animals and help them.
She was a girl who couldn’t bear to see the suffering of others and would shed tears for their painful
experiences.
However, such a good girl disappeared like a withered flower at the prime of her life.
He hated himself so much. Why couldn’t he have realized his true feelings earlier?
Why couldn’t we be a little bit nicer to her while she was still alive?
With this in mind, he crazily slapped himself, hitting harder and harder each time. Soon, half of his face became swollen and red, as if he believed that such extreme pain could alleviate the deep sense of guilt in his heart.
Seeing her son like this, Lola felt so heartache. She instructed Jason to bring a basin of cold water and poured it straight over Jeremy’s head, hoping to wake him up in this way.
“Jeremy, Vera has already died! What’s the point of locking yourself in your room all day and drowning in alcohol? She won’t come back to life! Please, snap out of it, will you?”
Jeremy raised his hand to interrupt Lola, who was still planning to continue.
“Mom, can you please stop interfering in my affairs and let me indulge myself? I am suffering! I

can’t live without Vera anymore.”
“Can’t live?” Lola sneered and continued, “It seems that the cold water just now hasn’t sobered you up. Now you’re even willing to die for a woman. Let me tell you if you love Vera so much, why don’t you just marry Elsa instead? They look so similar. You can just treat her as a substitute! No matter if it’s true or false, soon you’ll be able to move on.”
Jeremy suddenly raised his voice, saying, “I couldn’t have married Elsa. If it wasn’t for her repeatedly provoking Vera with messages, Vera wouldn’t have been driven to despair and died. It was all her fault that my Vera died, and I will never forgive her.”
“What! It was just her misfortune that she couldn’t enjoy a good life and resorted to suicide.”
Jeremy wanted to retort, but at this moment, the assistant hurriedly walked towards them in panic.
“Madam, something has happened.”
