Chapter 14
The highly anticipated wedding turned into a funeral.
In the space of black and white, Jeremy stood numbly beside Vera’s coffin, returning greetings to
the relatives and friends who came to offer condolences.
Almost everyone was saying the same thing.
“Mr. Fawcett, please accept my condolences.”
Jeremy received no comfort from their words.
Almost every guest saw Jeremy in this state and shook their heads, sighing with regret.
How did the two people in love be separated by death?
As the condolence ceremony was coming to an end, Andrew and Clara finally arrived with Elsa.
Andrew slowly walked up to the coffin of Vera, took a glance at the woman lying inside, and felt as if his heart was grabbed by a big palm.
But his words remained harsh.
“I said she was useless. She had a good life but insisted on committing suicide. She was so young and just left us behind. She truly was an unfilial daughter!”
Andrew, while speaking, tightly gripped the edge of the coffin with both hands, unable to stop
trembling.
Clara also came over and saw Vera’s swollen cheeks from being soaked in seawater for too long. She couldn’t help but cover her face and cry.
“Why did you give up your life so easily? We may be tough on you, but we never wanted you to die. My daughter…”
Clara gently touched Vera’s face with hands full of tears. Although her features remained unchanged, she looked extremely unfamiliar.
It seemed that ever since Vera turned five years old, there hadn’t been much intimate contact
between them.
“Vera had grown up without being realized. If only I had known that she would leave so early, I would have been nicer to her. I shouldn’t have said those hurtful words to Vera. Maybe she wouldn’t have felt so hopeless.”
Clara repeatedly blamed herself in her heart, tears streaming down until her eyes turned red.

Andrew tightly embraced her shoulders and led her away. As he turned around, a crystal–clear tear also fell from the corner of his ey
сус.
While Elsa, on the other hand, coldly watched everything in front of her, as if the
was just an insignificant person to her.
But she still pretended to be sad and bowed deeply to the body of Vera.
person
who died
When Jeremy looked up, his eyes met hers directly. This time, he no longer felt the fluttering in his heart. It seemed like his heart had died with Vera.
He liked Elsa. Everything he had done over the years was for her. But it seemed that he truly understood his own heart at this moment. It turned out that he had slowly fallen in love with Vera while spending time with her.
After realizing this, he felt more pain in his heart. He wished he could rush up there right now and tightly grab Elsa’s hand, asking her why she had sent those messages to Vera.
Why did she show off in front of Vera?
Why did she hurt Vera like this?
But in the end, he couldn’t say a single word.
Suddenly, the sky darkened, and heavy rain poured down. Jeremy knelt heavily on the ground, kneeling in front of Vera’s tombstone.
The engraved name in a fancy font on the tombstone pierced his eyes, and he trembled as he repeatedly caressed the name on the tombstone with his hand. He kept saying, “Vera, I’m sorry.”
Then he opened his arms and exerted all his strength to embrace the tombstone, gently leaving a kiss on its edge, as if he was kissing Vera’s forehead as he did before.
