Book–Chapter 1
“Host, you sure you wanna depart from this world via your death at the wedding ceremony a month later? By then, there will be no more Vera Perry in here. The only thing left is a corpse. Is that what you want?”
Vera nodded without any hesitation and reached an agreement with the system.
“Mrs. Fawcett, are you ready? Mr. Fawcett has been waiting for you at the bridal shop for a long
time.”
The butler’s question snapped Vera back to reality. After a moment of silence, she replied, “Yes.”
Hearing her response, Jason Brown cautiously pushed open the door to the master bedroom and brought in the tonic for Vera.
After taking a deep breath to suppress the nausea, she drank up the tonic in one gulp.
The tonic’s strong and pungent smell made her feel sick and brought tears to her eyes. Finally, she managed to stop herself from vomiting.
Seeing this, Jason frowned and spoke with concern, “Mrs. Fawcett, I admire your perseverance. Few people can keep drinking this stuff for five years.”
Vera wiped the residue off the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand. She forced a smile and waved her hand to dismiss Jason. Then, she went into the elevator, arrived at the underground
parking lot, and got in a car.
The car sped down the road. As it drove past a huge screen, Vera saw the video of Jeremy Fawcett proposing to her.
In the video, Jeremy put on the costume of Vera’s favorite Doraemon and knelt on one knee under the dazzling blue fireworks. He was always calm and aloof, but now, his hand couldn’t stop shaking as he held the ring. Right after Vera said “I do“, he pulled off the heavy headgear. Then, he couldn’t help bursting into tears.
He took Vera in his arms and held her hand.
His voice was trembling as he announced to the world, “My beloved girl finally agreed to marry me! Vera is my wife now!”
Many people stopped before the huge screen and captured this heartwarming moment with their
cameras.
The car stopped at the red light, and Vera happened to overhear two girls‘ exclamation.
“Mr. Fawcett is so romantic! It’s hard to find such a perfect guy. I’m so jealous.”
“How can I find such a nice guy? I just want my boyfriend to be as romantic as Mr. Fawcett. That’s

not too much to ask, right?”
Vera gave a bitter smile and lowered her head to hide the sadness in her eyes.
Everyone said that Jeremy loved Vera like crazy.
Back at college, Vera was in poor health, so Jeremy, hoping to cure her, chose to study medicine instead of following his family’s arrangement to study abroad.
During the peak of his fame and career, he proposed to her in a high–profile manner to give her a sense of security.
When she was in a coma, Jeremy, a materialist, actually placed his hope in God. He drove over a thousand kilometers to the famous Heliotropia Church just to pray for her safety.
Everybody was envious of Vera and thought that she was Jeremy’s beloved.
Even Vera had thought so. If she hadn’t found out about his change of heart long ago, she would probably be living in his lie forever.
She didn’t get it. Why people around her all preferred her twin sister, Elsa Perry, when she did nothing wrong?
