Chapter 0607
“Still haven’t decided?” Suzy urged, breaking the silence as Dylan remained unresponsive.” I’ll give you three more seconds. If you don’t answer, I’ll take it as you are passing up this chance.”
Dylan’s lips pressed even tighter together before he finally said, “I’ll take it.”
“OK!” Suzy smiled slyly. “From now on, we’re just friends. And as friends, don’t bring up things like how you love me or want to remarry me again. Otherwise, we can’t even be friends.
Dylan was speechless.
This woman really knew how to push his buttons!
Despite his frustration, Dylan didn’t dare show it fearing she’d go back on her word. The Suzy he faced now was no longer the Suzy of the past. She was no longer tolerant or lenient toward him.
“Alright, everything’s been said. I’m heading back to get some sleep. You should eat and head home soon too.” Suzy wayed casually. “Goodbye, friend!”
Dylan could only watch helplessly as she walked away. Lifting the glass of red wine before him, he downed it in one gulp. Only then did the bitterness in his chest ease a little.
Yes, bitterness–not anger–because he didn’t dare to be angry at her.
Before he fell in love with Suzy, Dylan never imagined he could swallow his pride to this extent for anyone. But here he was.
With her
gone, there was no point in continuing the meal. Dylan signaled for Desmond to settle the bill and left the restaurant.
Desmond, who had been standing at a distance, hadn’t overheard their conversation. But judging by Dylan’s expression, it wasn’t hard to guess that things hadn’t ended well between the two again.
No surprises there. This was just how things were!
If there ever came a day when Suzy left Dylan in a good mood, that would truly be shocking.
Knowing this, Desmond wisely kept his presence to a minimum, saying nothing and barely daring to breathe as they drove back.
But even with his efforts to avoid conflict, Desmond couldn’t escape the storm. After dropping Dylan off at Bayview Heights, there was a small misstep while helping him out of the car, earning Desmond a sharp glare.
“Apologies…” Desmond quickly offered, his tone meek.

Dylan said nothing, settling into his wheelchair. As they approached the house, he suddenly asked, “How’s Diana doing recently?”
“She’s been busy with Elliot lately…” Desmond hesitated before continuing, “I haven’t been keeping a close eye on her.”
Dylan glanced at him again, his tone cold. “Can’t handle two tasks at the same time anymore?”
Desmond was speechless.
Two tasks? More like a mountain of them! Every little thing required his attention. Did Dylan not feel even a twinge of guilt saying that?
Forget it–he was the boss, nursing broken heart and a foul mood. Arguing with him would be a waste of time.
“I’ll call someone and get an update on her situation,” Desmond replied, convincing himself that his patience was reaching world–record levels. He wondered if he could apply for a Guinness World Record for endurance.
Just when he thought the ordeal was over, Dylan, who rarely meddled in others‘ affairs, decided to extend his concern beyond Suzy.
“Has there been any news about Nadia Fletcher?
“I don’t know!” Desmond admitted honestly. He truly didn’t know–it had nothing to do with him!
Dylan shot Desmond another dissatisfied look.
Desmond internally grumbled. “You act like a subdued kitten around Mrs. Wright, but with me, you’re suddenly a lion?”
Of course, he could only vent in his head. Outwardly, he remained compliant. “Would you like me to call Mr. Steele and ask?”
