Chapter 86
Chapter 86
“Working together?” Calen slammed his fist on the table as he listened to his new secretary Albert’s report. “And they’re staying inside one office?
“That’s what the rumors say” Albert answered.
“Since this morning?”
“Yes, sir.”
Calen snorted. Izzy was really taking things too far. What was the point of doing all this? “Does she really think she can get away with this?” he muttered. The woman had her pride, and Calen knew it. However, he refused to believe that Izzy would give up the years she spent with him just because of that dummy Liam.
“That man is taking advantage of her,” Calen muttered, irritation apparent on his face. He knew Izzy and Liam knew each other. However, they shouldn’t be that close. Besides, it was clear that Izzy disliked Liam. “She’s just using him to piss me off,” he mumbled.
“Sir, the madam has called two times already…” Albert said. “She asked me to remind you to answer her calls.”
Calen’s expression turned ugly. His mother had been trying to call him since he arrived in Macau, but he had been refusing to answer. It seemed that his mother was now bothering his secretary.
He glanced at the time and let
out a sigh. “Fine… I’ll call her now It was still six in the afternoon in San Francisco, so his mother should still be awake. He quickly dialed her number.
After a few rings, Cecil answered. “I’m glad you still remember you have a mother.”
“Mom..” Calen tried to hide the annoyance in his voice. “I’m busy, and you know that.” He got up from his seat and looked at
the view of Macau from his office.
Calen’s office overlooked the bustling city of Macau. From his window, he could see the stretch of modern skyscrapers and the glimmering waters of the Pearl River. The streets below were alive with movement–cars weaving through traffic and pedestrians scattered about. A faint haze hung over the skyline, a mix of early morning mist and the ever–present smog. The iconic Macau Tower stood tall in the distance.
“I know you’re busy,” Cecil said after a pause. “But I’m not calling about the project.”
Calen furrowed his brow, already suspecting what she wanted to talk about.
“It’s Isabella,” Cecil continued. “She stopped answering my calls.
“She’s busy,” Calen replied flatly, keeping his gaze on the horizon
“Busy with what? Liam?” Cecil pressed.
“She’s working on something,” he answered, avoiding the question. He wondered how his mother knew about Liam.
“You better hurry, Calen,” Cecil said firmly. “My friends have been calling non–stop. I don’t know what they’ve heard, but they seem to think the two of you are having problems. I assured them it was simply a misunderstanding. Do you know how humiliating that is for me?”
Calen exhaled sharply and turned from the window. “I’m handling it.”
“Good, because I will only accept Isabella as my daughter–in–law I won’t entertain any other options. Do you understand
me?”
Khon, Calen replied, gripping the back of his clair. He avoide the urge to argue. It wouldn’t help
There was a bef silence before Cecil continued “Tomorrow is labella’s birthday. Did you prepare anything?”
Galen’s angers tightened around the chair. A pang of guilt hit his–he had completely forgotten. “Of course,” he said quickly, masking his realization. “I’ve prepared a gift for her. Insure she’ll appreciate it.”
Cecil seemed satisfied. “Good. If you need help with anything, let me know. I also sent a few things for her, just in case: Make sure she gets them”
“I will,” he said, making a mental note to check with Albert about the package.
“By the way.” Cecil added, “Monica’s been hanging around outside your condo. She’s been trying to get into the building. It’s irritating.”
Calen clicked his tongue, his irritation rising. He had expected Monica to be persistent, but this was getting out of hand. “Don’t bother with her. I’ll handle it.” He had promised her money, but had completely forgotten about it. Fortunately, Izzy was here in Macau, or Monica would have surely told her about her pregnancy.
“You’d better,” Cecil replied curtly. “I don’t want her causing more trouble.”
“Understood,” Calen said, ending the call shortly after. Then he opened the blocked numbers on his phone and unblocked Monica’s number. Withouta second thought, he called her.
“Monica-”
“And here I thought you wanted Izzy to know… I guess I was wrong,” Monica’s voice sounded groggy as if she had just woken up. “Do you have my money?” she asked.
Calen sat on his chair and leaned back, his free hand tapping against the desk as he stared out at the city. “I’ll have someone bring the money to you. One million That should be enough to start over.”
Monica let out a dry chuckle. “And just like that, you expect me to disappear.”
“Were you expecting something else?” Calen asked, ignoring her tone. Then he continued, “I’ve already scheduled a clinic
else.” for you in Nevada. You can handle the procedure there, quietly. I’ve also booked a flight to Mexico for the day after. You can start over, away from here. Don’t come back to the U.S. and don’t contact me–or anyone
There was a long pause before Monica responded. “You’ve really thought of everything, haven’t you?” She let out another chuckle, this one bitter. “So this is how it ends. You get rid of me, the child, and any loose ends. I’ve never met anyone as ruthless as you, Calen.”
Calen’s jaw tightened, his fingers curling into a fist against the desk. “Ruthless?” he repeated, turning his chair to face the window. “Don’t talk to me about being ruthless. Wasn’t it you who seduced your own cousin’s boyfriend?”
Monica didn’t respond immediately, but Calen could almost feel the weight of her silence through the line.
“You were the one who started this,” Calen continued. “Don’t act like a victim now. You’re lucky I’m giving you a way out. If I were as ruthless as you say, you wouldn’t even have the chance to leave this country alive,” he said coldly. “So take the money, leave, and don’t make this worse for yourself.”
Monica let out a sigh. “And if I refuse?”
“You won’t,” Calen snapped. He picked up a pen and began tapping it against the edge of his desk. “You know better than to push me. Stay out of my mother’s way, or you’ll regret it.”
Monica muttered something under her breath, but Calen didn’t bother asking her to repeat it. He glanced at his watch, his patience running thin.
Chapter 86
“Take this deal, Monica, or I swear, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life,” he added. “After that, you’re on your own.
Without waiting for her response, Calen ended the call. He set h phone down and exhaled slowly, his irritation still lingering as he stared at the screen. Then he called Albert.
“I need you to arrange the money,” he said. “The one that I told you about. Have it ready by tomorrow.”
“Yes, sir,” Albert replied. “Anything else?”
“Get the flight details for Monica and make sure everything is in place for Nevada”
Albert paused for a moment before responding. “Understood.”
Calen closed his eyes, leaning back in his chair once more.
Monica should be smart enough to stay away. The only reason why he hadn’t asked someone to make her disappear was because he didn’t want to attract Izzy’s attention. Despite everything, Calen knew that Izzy cared for Monica, so he wouldn’t do anything stupid…. at least for now.
Then he got up. “Albert… bring me to the stores that sell the best natural diamonds in Macau,” he said.”
