“Especially Barret and Aruna–they targeted me the moment I arrived. If it weren’t for them, I might not have found you so quickly!” Suzy said. “But think about it, if it had been someone else in my position, what would have happened to them?
“What kind of fate would they have faced?”
Thankfully, it had been her, and fortunately, she had been brought to Elliot. If it had been another girl, sold off to someone else, the outcome would have been far worse.
Suzy couldn’t help but feel a little proud as she continued.
“And let’s not forget–how did you figure out I was faking unconsciousness? Turns out, you’re a product of my training. No one else would’ve managed to catch that!”
This situation had nothing to do with Suzy originally. Her primary mission was to find her father. However, given everything that had happened, she felt obligated to teach Elliot a thing
or two.
What was acceptable and what wasn’t–even as a gang leader, he needed to have a moral baseline.
After all, he was her apprentice. If he crossed too many lines, his actions would eventually reflect on her, and she wasn’t about to let anyone criticize her because of his behavior.
“Listen, El…”
El was a nickname Suzy had given him.
“As your sister, I need to set you straight. Even if you’ve lost your memory and become a gan leader, you need to have a proper moral compass. The way your men are running wild is entirely your fault as their leader.
“If you’d told them from the start that breaking the law and exploiting others wasn’t acceptable, would they still be out on the streets, brazenly scamming people like this?”
Elliot stood there like a chastised child, taking her lecture seriously. “You’re right, Sis. I may not have ordered them to do such things, but I also never stopped them. That’s why they’ve become so unruly. I’ll make sure to rein them in and set new rules for them going forward!”
Seeing his sincere attitude, Suzy felt relieved.
“Now that’s more like it,” she said with a nod. “You’d better remember this–even though this place might be a no–man’s–land, there are still lines you absolutely cannot cross. If you do, I’ll be the first to come after you!”
“I understand!”
“Don’t just understand–make sure you actually follow through!”

“I will!” Elliot replied firmly, pressing his lips together. “Sis, even though my men lack discipline, they’re still highly capable. I still think the reason we haven’t found Dad is that the lead you got might not be reliable.
“If he were truly here, my men would’ve found him by now, no matter where he was on this land.”
“I get it.”
Still, she decided to verify the lead once more.
The information had come from Helena, someone Suzy trusted completely. However, Elliot’s point wasn’t without merit–if her father were truly in the area, it didn’t add up that so many people had been searching for so long without uncovering even a single clue.
The issue might lie with Helena herself. Perhaps someone was intentionally manipulating her?
Charlotte was already dead, so who could still be helping to hide her father’s whereabouts in the shadows?
Suzy decided she needed to return to Xandria to investigate further and uncover who was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
When Elliot heard about her plan to head to Xandria, he insisted on going with her.
“What are you coming for?” Suzy said, frowning. “You need to stay here and keep watch. Wha if there’s news while I’m gone?”
She couldn’t risk him meeting her brother. That would blow the entire charade wide open.
What she didn’t expect was that, although Elliot agreed to stay behind, he secretly followed her to Xandria anyway.
