Chapter 0517
“Why waste so many words? I ended up in your hands because I wasn’t good enough. Kill me or torture me—do whatever you want!”
Helena wasn’t truly unafraid; she was gambling.
She was betting that Dylan wouldn’t actually kill her. He didn’t know the full story yet, so how could he possibly end her life without finding out? It had to be a bluff to intimidate her.
Psychological battles worked like that–the key was who would crack first.
Dylan could see through her thoughts easily enough. She was convinced he wouldn’t dare kill her, especially since she was the only one who knew the truth he wanted.
But she was wrong.
“Since you’re unwilling to talk, I won’t force you,” Dylan said slowly, his tone almost lazy. “After all, the reason doesn’t matter that much to me. Once you’re dead, everything will end with you.
Helena’s confidence wavered. His words rattled her, and she almost lost control of her composure. She quickly caught herself, though, and responded with feigned calm. “Then shoot me! Right here! Kill me, and as you said, everything between us will end.”
Her outward composure only masked the storm of panic raging inside. She was terrified that Dylan might actually pull the trigger.
Dylan studied her unflinching facade, then said nothing more.
Instead, he squeezed the trigger.
“Ah!”
Helena reflexively squeezed her eyes shut, letting out a scream of terror.
Dylan chuckled coldly. “I thought you weren’t afraid.”
Helena realized she’d been played yet again, and embarrassment flooded her. “Dylan Wright, you’re just like your father–a despicable man!”
“So, this has to do with my father?” Dylan caught the critical detail in her outburst immediately.
Helena froze, her lips pressing together in frustration as she realized her slip. The next second, she threw caution to the wind and spat out the truth. “Yes, it’s all because of your so–called wonderful father! As they say, the sins of the father are visited upon the son. He wronged me, and now it’s your turn to pay the price!”
“What exactly did he owe you?”

Dylan’s gaze sharpened as he pressed her further. His father had passed away years ago, and Xandria and Zentora were separated by vast distances.
When Dylan’s father passed away, Helena must have only been a child. It seemed impossible for them to have had any connection.
Dylan couldn’t wrap his head around her claim that his father owed her anything.
Seeing the confusion on his face, Helena let out a cold laugh. “Oh, he owed me more than you can imagine. Love. Care. Attention. Everything a father should give his child–he failed me completely.”
Her words hit Dylan with full force, their meaning impossible to miss. “That’s impossible!” “Why is it impossible?” Helena’s lips curved into a mocking smile. “Dylan, how much do you really know about your father? He might’ve played the devoted husband to your mother, but in reality, he was nothing but a selfish, unfaithful man.
“When my mother, the Crown Princess at the time, studied abroad in your country, she and your father attended the same university. My mother was beautiful, and your father was immediately smitten. He pursued her relentlessly, showering her with attention and charm.
“At first, my mother wanted nothing to do with him. She knew her duty, her responsibilities. But your father wouldn’t take no for an answer. He was persistent, using every tactic imaginable to win her over. No woman can withstand that kind of passionate pursuit forever. In the end, my mother couldn’t help but fall in love with him.”
