“I suspended Calen, as you already know,” CEO Weiss said as he studied Izzy from behind his desk. “I hope this will not affect anything you’ve been working on in the company, Miss Rossi.”
Izzy met his gaze, her expression calm which seemed to surprise the older CEO. “I didn’t expect this decision,” she said, keeping her voice steady. “But I’ll do my best to ensure my projects remain on track.”
Weiss nodded, leaning back in his chair. “Good. If you need time to regroup or adjust, you’re welcome to work from home until you feel better. The offer is there if you choose to take it.”
y didn’t respond immediately, her eyes momentarily flicking on the papers on his desk. After a pause, she offered a polite hile. “Thank you for the consideration. I’ll keep that in mind.”
The CEO’s expression softened slightly as he added, “And regarding your current project–if it’s successful, I will personally support your promotion for the board to consider. Your work has been exemplary, and I believe it’s time others acknowledged that. Moreover, I can assure you of a peaceful environment even after Calen comes back. I can only hope this won’t affect your performance in the company.”
Izzy’s lips curved into a faint smile. “I appreciate that, sir. Thank you.”
Before CEO Weiss could respond further, the door to his office swung open. Calen entered, his movements brisk. He closed the door behind him and walked toward the desk without hesitation.
CEO Weiss’s gaze shifted to his son, his posture remaining composed. “Calen, this isn’t a good time,” he said firmly, gesturing to Izzy.
Calen’s eyes
Izzy.
darted to Izzy briefly before he stepped closer to the desk. “I need to talk to you,” he said, his focus squarely on
“Calen, this isn’t a good time,” his father said again.
“Father, please… this doesn’t concern you,” Calen said before turning his attention back to Izzy. “Please… I need to talk to you.. in private.”
“I wouldn’t do that,” Izzy said as she got up, turning her attention toward CEO Weiss. “Thank you for meeting with me oday. I can assure you that whatever I am going through won’t affect my performance.”
CEO Weiss nodded as he shook Izzy’s hand.
“Please, Izzy… can you at least let me explain?” Calen said.
“Explain what?” Izzy asked as she turned toward him. “What are you going to explain, Calen?”
“That I didn’t mean it. It was-”
Izzy snorted and started walking away. However, Calen was quick to block her path. “Please… just listen to me. I can explain.”
Again, Izzy snorted. Then she looked at CEO Weiss. “Please excuse us.” Impatient, she turned to Calen. “Stop making a scene. You’re embarrassing yourself. Let’s talk at the cafe downstairs.”
Izzy and Calen walked downstairs in silence, neither exchanging a single word. As they entered the cafe, Calen gestured toward an empty table in the corner. Izzy sat down without hesitation, placing her bag on the seat next to her.

Calen lingered for a moment before asking. “Do you want to order something? A macchiato, maybe?”
Izzy’s lips twitched slightly, though it wasn’t a smile. “I don’t drink macchiato. That’s Monica’s drink, not mine.”

Calen’s face turned a shade darker. He looked away for a moment, then returned his focus to her. “Right. Sorry. Do you want anything else?*
“No. Let’s make this quick. I have reports to finish,” Izzy said, leaning back in her chair. She folded her arms and waited. She had thought of this moment for weeks–how she would confront him for what he did. Izzy thought she would be emotional, a mess maybe. Instead, she felt nothing. Watching him almost felt like she was observing a colleague she barely knew. Calen sat down across from her, resting his elbows on the table. He hesitated before speaking, his fingers drumming lightly
inst the surface, “What happened with Monica.. it wasn’t serious.”
Izzy raised an eyebrow but said nothing, waiting for him to continue.
“It was a mistake. A lapse in judgment,” he said. “I’d had too much to drink, and things… got out of hand.”
Izzy let out a breath and tilted her head slightly. “Too much to drink? That’s your excuse? Is that what you’ve been telling yourself to make it sound better?”
Calen shifted uncomfortably, his fingers stopping their rhythm. “It’s not an excuse. I’m just trying to explain what happened. It didn’t mean anything.”
“It didn’t mean anything? You were in bed with her. That’s not something that doesn’t mean anything,’ Calen. That’s a choice. You didn’t just stumble and fall into bed, did you?”
He opened his mouth to respond, but stopped. He rubbed the back of his neck and looked down at the table. “You’re right. It was a choice, and it was a terrible one. I regret it more than anything?”
“Good,” Izzy said flatly. “You should.”
Calen looked up at her, his expression tense. “I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. But I’m asking if there’s any way… any way at all… that I can prove to you that I still love you.”
Izzy’s expression didn’t soften. She leaned back in her chair and looked at him for a long moment before speaking. “Love? You call this love? Cheating on me with my cousin is your idea of love?” Surprisingly, her voice sounded calm–too calm.
No, it’s not,” he said quickly. “I know I screwed up, Izzy. I know I hurt you. But I want to make it right. I’ll do whatever it takes to fix this.”
Izzy shook her head. “I believe we don’t have much to talk about. The CEO assured me that I can work peacefully even after your suspension. Let’s just stay out of each other’s way from now on.”
“Izzy, is there really no way that you could give me another chance? I mean… we were together for three years.”
Izzy snorted. “Did you think about that when you were sleeping with my cousin?”
“Izzy-”
“Look…” Izzy sighed. “What’s done is done. There’s no point in salvaging something that’s already ruined. You can’t fix a broken glass, Calen. You can make it look pretty, make it seem whole, but you can never truly fix it. Between us…” Izzy paused deliberately, studying his expression. “There’s no fixing. It’s over.”
Izzy never thought that saying those words would actually give her the relief she didn’t know she needed.

“Izzy… we’ve been together for three years. If you only give me a chance–if you really love me…”

“You think I don’t love you because I’m not breaking down in front of you? That’s what this is about?” Izzy’s gaze sharpened as she studied Calen. How could someone be this arrogant?
Calen’s hands clenched into fists on the table. “Yes. If you really loved me, you wouldn’t just walk away. You’d fight for us. You’d give me a chance to prove that I can fix this. Isn’t that right? If you truly loved me, you would stay. It’s that simple!”
Izzy snorted and shook her head. “The audacity,” she muttered under her breath. “You’re blaming me now? You’re actually trying to make this my fault?”
I’m not blaming you. I’m just saying that love isn’t supposed to be this easy to let go of. If you cared about me–about us-
u’d at least try.”
Izzy tilted her head, her lips curling into a cold smile. For a few seconds, she didn’t speak. “So, let me get this straight. You cheated on me, lied to me, and humiliated me, but I’m the problem because I’m not groveling over what we had? Is that it?”
“I’m asking for a chance to make things right. Doesn’t three years mean anything to you?”
Izzy’s jaw tightened as she stood, grabbing her bag. She looked down at him, her stance firm. “Three years means a lot to me, Calen. That’s why I’m not wasting another second on someone who clearly didn’t value them.”
Calen stood quickly, blocking her path. “So that’s it? You’re just walking away? Like I never meant anything to you?”
“You’re the one who made it clear what I meant to you the moment you chose her.” She glanced at him over her shoulder. “Now, you don’t get to decide how I react to your betrayal. If you cared about me at all, you wouldn’t be standing here trying to guilt me into staying.”
Calen reached out as if to stop her, but his hand hovered in the air before falling back to his side. “You’re not even angry. That’s what makes this so hard to believe.”
How could the woman who had been with him for three years not even show any emotion while talking to him? The Izzy he knew might be cold, but he was confident that she loved him with all her heart. This only meant one thing—she might be pretending to be strong in front of him! Was she playing hard to get?
Izzy paused, her gaze narrowing as if she could hear his thoughts. “You’re pathetic, Calen. This conversation is over.” Without another word, she walked away, leaving him standing there in the cafe, alone.
