“Of course, I’m afraid!” Desmond replied. “Even the best fighter can’t handle being outnumbered. If a group shows up, I’ll feel much safer with you around. Besides, you’re better at this than me, so I’m begging you–just come with me!”
Watching the two disappear down the hall, Suzy scoffed. “Desmond must’ve done something terrible in a past life to end up stuck playing the lackey like this.”
Dylan, of course, caught the sarcasm in her voice, but he didn’t respond.
Under normal circumstances, Suzy would have left Dylan to fend for himself.
“Isn’t he trying to avoid me? Fine, let him get what he wants!” she thought.
However…
Thinking of that woman, Suzy forced down her anger and pushed Dylan’s wheelchair toward his room.
The moment they entered, Dylan asked, “You said your father is here. Was that true?”
Suzy glanced at him. “No, I lied. He is still alive, but I don’t know where he is yet.”
At this point, there was no reason to lie anymore.
Hearing this, Dylan frowned again. “Where did you find out that he’s still alive?”
“From Claude’s journal,” Suzy admitted honestly. “When I first learned about that mysterious organization in Xandria, I suspected it had something to do with Claude. So I went to his residence, hoping to find some clues.
“I found his journal, which clearly documented how Charlotte had orchestrated the entire scheme to secretly hide my parents back then.”
As she spoke, Suzy paused, as if she realized something. Her gaze at Dylan grew complicated, a flicker of hesitation crossing her expression.
It seemed like she was debating whether to say more, but in the end, she chose to keep that secret to herself.
Perhaps the man close to Evangeline was just someone who looked like that person. After all, Evangeline strongly resembled her mother.
Especially recently, Suzy had come across a news story online: a mother saw a child on the street who looked exactly like her own daughter. She even suspected that the child might actually be hers, as she had conceived her daughter through in vitro fertilization.
However, after an investigation, it turned out the child was unrelated to her–the mother of the child had conceived naturally.

After hearing her explanation, Dylan’s brows furrowed deeply. “Send me all the information you have about your father. I’ll have my people look for him.”
“There’s no need!” Suzy refused outright. “We still don’t know whether my father is in danger or not, so we can’t risk drawing attention to it.”
“I understand,” Dylan replied. “I’ll have my people search discreetly.”
“What’s this? Not avoiding me anymore?” Suzy’s gaze locked on him. “Aren’t you afraid your condition might drag me down?”
“Did Desmond tell you that?” Dylan muttered, cursing under his breath.

Suzy didn’t answer.
Instead, she reached over and removed a bugging device from his wheelchair.
Dylan was speechless.
Suzy looked at him intently, her expression serious. “Dylan, I’ll admit, I didn’t originally plan to have anything to do with you again. But humans have feelings, and after everything you’ve done for me, I can’t pretend nothing has changed. So, I’ll ask you one last time— are you still planning to avoid me?”
