Chapter 8
Since that incident at KTV, my life, which had finally calmed down, was once again
disrupted.
As I had expected, after breaking up with Grace, Ethan regretted his actions.

le came to the company almost every day, waiting for me outside..
Every time he came, he held a bouquet of roses.
To avoid him, I had to use the back door.
But he clung to me like a persistent gum.
He kept changing his phone number and WhatsApp, trying to reach me, but I blocked him
each time.
Then one day, when I came home, I found Ethan waiting outside my door.
He still had a bouquet of roses in his arms.
When he saw me, he instinctively straightened his collar and carefully walked over.
I tightened my grip on my phone and took a step back.
He noticed my movement, and his eyes reddened.
“Autumn, I came here today to apologize.”
I just watched him cautiously, not saying anything.
“I’m sorry. I know I was wrong. I have no face to come back to you, but I’ve thought a lot during this time. The truth is, I’ve always loved you. We’ve supported each other all these years, and we’ve had so many good memories.”
His eyes fell on my lower abdomen, and I wasn’t sure if he was remembering something. but his eyes reddened again. He choked up when he spoke again.

“If I hadn’t been so foolish, maybe by now our child would have been born.”
Hearing him mention the child, all the memories flooded back to me. I clenched my and interrupted him.

You don’t deserve to mention the child.”
His gaze darkened, and he forced a bitter smile.
You’re right. I don’t deserve it. It’s all my fault.”
Then, suddenly, he slapped himself hard across the face.
The slap was so forceful that his cheek swelled up.
When he looked at me again, his eyes were full of guilt, almost pleading.

“Autumn, can you forgive me? I swear there will be no next time. Give me a chance, let’s go
back to how we were.”
He solemnly handed me the flowers, his tone more earnest than ever.
“Autumn, I love you. Please, give me a chance.”
When I didn’t respond, he knelt down on both knees.
“Please, I beg you.”
I lowered my gaze and coldly stared at him.
In his eyes, filled with expectation, I forcefully knocked the flowers to the ground.
“It’s too late.”

“Ethan, this path was chosen by you. If you hadn’t cheated, like you said, maybe our child would have been born by now. In a little while, he would be calling us ‘mommy‘ and ‘daddy.” We could have been happy, but you destroyed all of that. You brought yourself to
this situation.”
“Ethan, you deserve this.”

After saying that, I stepped around him and entered my apartment.
Not long after the door shut, I heard his heart–wrenching cries and suppressed shouts in the
hallway.
I don’t know when he left, but the next day, when I went out, I saw that the hallway was covered in cigarette butts.
From then on, Ethan never showed up again.
I didn’t hear from him for a long time.
Under my leadership, the company thrived.
The next time I heard about Ethan was from one of the employees.
Ethan posted on social media, angrily calling Grace a “whore.”
He was furious because Grace had given him syphilis.
So, when I saw Grace at KTV, she had already been infected for a while.
Thankfully, I had a suspicion and went for a check–up the next day. My results came back clean.
I walked toward the CEO’s office, grateful that I had already distanced myself from them.
After the divorce, I realized many things.
I don’t need to be bound by marriage in this life.
In the past, because of my mother’s pressure and the opinions of others, I chose arranged marriages.
But this failed marriage taught me a valuable lesson.
Marriage shouldn’t be the goal.
The goal is true happiness.
