Chapter 0426
“Aside from being angry, do you really not feel anything else?” Suzy asked.
After all, Nadia had been by Victor’s side for so many years. Even if there wasn’t love, surely there was some familial bond. How could he seem so indifferent when someone close to him was sick?
“Nothing,” Victor replied without hesitation. “Honestly, I’m not even angry. Whatever happens to her has nothing to do with me! In fact, this is the best outcome–she’ll never cling to me again. I’m finally free! I’ve dreamed of this day for years.”
Suzy was speechless.
So, this was what true cold–heartedness looked like. “Fine, forget I asked.”
She shouldn’t have bothered.
She thought Victor might still harbor some feelings for Nadia, but clearly, there wasn’t a shred left.
Compared to Nadia, Suzy realized she wasn’t the one who had it worst. Nadia had invested fifteen years of her life, while Suzy had only given three. And while Nadia ended up with nothing, Suzy had at least earned Dylan’s love albeit a little late.
Victor, however, was baffled by the look Suzy gave him as she left. Why did she seem like she thought he was some kind of scumbag?
“What more do you expect from me?” Victor snapped, furrowing his brows deeply. “I find out she’s moved on to someone else, and I’m not allowed to complain?
“If she hadn’t gone out of her way to create this image of being deeply devoted to me- sacrificing everything for me–I wouldn’t care one bit if she fell for some younger guy. I wouldn’t say a word.
“But she played me for years, letting me shoulder the blame for so much, and now she wants to walk away without any consequences? Of course, I’m not going to let her off that easily!”
Victor clenched his teeth, seething with anger at the mention of Nadia.
They had been on the verge of getting married when photos surfaced of her checking into a hotel with some boy toy. If it hadn’t been for William threatening to disown him, Victor would never have agreed to the engagement. And yet, in the end, who knows how many times she’d humiliated him like this?
All these years, she had been pretending. She never truly loved him.
The more Victor thought about it, the angrier he became. “She made a fortune living under

the Steele family name and now wants to run off with her little plaything? Over my dead body! I’ll crush her plans to dust!”
This marriage was going to happen, but only so he could make her pay back everything she owed him.
Meanwhile, Suzy retraced her steps, disguised in a way that made her unrecognizable to anyone who might have seen her before. She lingered near the slave market where Dylan had reportedly been spotted.
If Dylan had truly appeared there, Suzy was certain the place held answers.
After several days of careful investigation, she finally coaxed some information from a middle–aged woman.
The young man from before hadn’t been lying–Dylan had indeed been there and had even been sold as a slave in an underground auction.
Suzy’s heart clenched painfully at the revelation. The president of the Wright Corporation was reduced to a mere slave…
How could he possibly bear such humiliation?
Swallowing her discomfort, Suzy pressed on, asking the woman who had given her the information, “Do you know who bought him?”
The woman hesitated.
Suzy quickly slipped her a wad of cash. “Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone I heard this from you.”
But the woman still looked uneasy. “Even if you don’t say anything, they’ll figure it out. Around here, Miss Maya rules everything. Crossing her is a death sentence.”
“Miss Maya…”
