Faced with Suzy’s questioning, Dylan let out a bitter laugh. “Because I don’t have much time left. It’s better if you all just think I’m already dead.”
“What do you mean, you don’t have much time left?”
Suzy’s voice dripped with sarcasm as she gave him a once–over. “It’s just a gunshot to the abdomen. You, the great leader of the Yellowtail Squadron, acting like a little wound would kill you?”
He had survived countless injuries, just like she had, and yet here he was, still standing. And with her here, unless his condition was truly beyond hope, she could patch him up no matter how serious it was.
Dylan’s gaze was filled with a mix of sorrow and reluctance as he looked at Suzy. “Before Claude died, he poisoned me!”
“Claude is dead?”
“Yes.” Dylan nodded. “That day, when he dragged me underwater, he must have exhausted himself. By the time we swam to the underwater passage leading to the island, he was already running out of strength.
“I seized the opportunity to fight back. During the struggle, he used up all his remaining energy, but with his dying breath, he managed to poison me. He said that even you wouldn’t be able to cure it. That’s why I’ve been avoiding all of you. I didn’t want you to worry about me again.”
As Dylan shared everything, Suzy’s main concern was something else entirely.
“Where’s Claude’s body?”
“So, deep down, you still care about him?” Dylan’s eyes stayed fixed on her face, intent on catching even the slightest shift in her expression.
Suzy thought for a moment before replying, “During the time when my family was in trouble, he was the one who stayed by my side. Over the years, I’ve leaned on him more than I ever did on Charlotte.”
Dylan’s expression shifted as he pressed further, “So, he was someone important to you, wasn’t he?”
Realizing his tone had grown a bit intense, and noticing the way Suzy looked at him with hesitation, Dylan quickly explained, “I’m only asking because… if that’s the case, and he died because of me, would you hold it against me?”
Suzy replied casually, “You say that like you’re actually afraid of me or something!”

“Afraid? Of course I’m afraid!” Dylan’s dark eyes locked onto Suzy as he spoke earnestly, Before I fell in love with you, I feared nothing. But after loving you, you became my greatest weakness.
Suzy sighed inwardly and thought, “Here we go again.”
Ignoring his declaration, she said, “You still haven’t answered my question.”
“Claude’s body is still in the underwater passage. I was too weak from the poison to deal with it.”
“The underwater passage? But we’ve searched the seabed before–more than once–and found nothing.”
“At the deepest part of the sea, there’s a hidden reef. The mechanism is on top of it. Activate it, and it leads directly to the northernmost part of the island. Are you planning to retrieve Claude’s body?”
“Yes,” Suzy replied without hesitation. “No matter what, to me, his kindness outweighs his betrayal. If it weren’t for him that night, I never would’ve escaped.”
Over the years, though Claude had deceived her time and again, she couldn’t deny that it was his protection that allowed her to repeatedly escape Charlotte’s clutches.
Dylan watched her, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes. “I’ll take you there.”
“There’s no need. You’ve been shot and poisoned. Stop overexerting yourself. Just tell me the exact location.”
After a brief hesitation, Dylan gave her the precise directions.
Before diving into the water, Suzy called Victor and the others. When she finally returned the same way she left, Victor saw Dylan alive–just as Suzy had described over the phone. Only then did Victor truly believe that everything she had told him was real.
