Suzy glanced at Hawk with a slight smile. “Didn’t you say on the phone that you had news about the cufflink?”
“Yeah,” Hawk replied, his gaze darkening. “But I didn’t expect it to lead to him.”
“Who?” Suzy asked, curiosity lighting up her face. “Judging by your tone, I should know
this person.”
Fixing his eyes on her, Hawk spoke deliberately, each word heavy with meaning, “Dylan Wright.”
“What did you say?” Suzy’s disbelief was evident. “Dylan?”
“That’s right.” Hawk’s expression grew even more intense. “Junior, are you sure you don’t recognize this cufflink? According to my investigation, it was a custom piece–a gift you made for Dylan yourself.”
“Is that so?” Suzy’s face remained calm and composed. “Cufflinks tend to look alike. I didn’t take a close look earlier, so I didn’t recognize it at the time. And it’s been so long, I’d completely forgotten I ever gave him one. After all, Dylan is nothing more than a stranger to me now. I have no reason to remember anything about him.”
Hawk’s heart soared, her words as sweet as honey. “So, you don’t care about him. anymore?”
“Of course not. He’s not the only man in the world. Like Charlotte once said, there are plenty of men better than him. You’re proof of that.”
Hawk couldn’t stop the grin that spread across his face. “So, you’ve finally noticed my worth?”
“I have. You’ve risked your life for me three times. Without you, I wouldn’t even be here. I’m not that heartless.”
If pure elation had a definition, it would perfectly describe how Hawk felt at that moment. But Suzy’s next words turned the mood cold.
“I never would have imagined that Dylan could be the killer!” Her expression frosted over. “Whatever his reasons for targeting Charlotte, I won’t let him off the hook!”
Hiding the flicker of light in his eyes, Hawk feigned confusion. “Yeah, I can’t figure it out either. Why would Dylan go as far as to assassinate Charlotte? Was it simply because he couldn’t stand her–after all, she did deliberately get in your way before–or is there some deeper, unspeakable secret between them?”

“An unspeakable secret?” Suzy’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Do you think there’s a connection between them, Senior?”
Hawk studied her expression for a moment before letting out a soft laugh. “How would I know? It’s just a guess. If he wanted her dead, there’d be no need for all the theatrics. Dylan could have dealt with her openly and decisively.”
Suzy nodded in agreement. “You’re right, Senior. Your analysis makes sense. I’ll have someone investigate Dylan and see if there’s truly any hidden connection between him and Charlotte.”
Right in front of Hawk, she picked up her phone and called Avalon. “I need you to look into Dylan Wright’s relationship with Charlotte. I want everything you can find–every detail.”
After issuing her instructions, Suzy hung up and sat down on the sofa opposite Hawk
“Senior, I’d like to discuss something with you.”
“Go ahead, I’m listening,” Hawk replied, leaning forward slightly.
Suzy hesitated for a moment, pressing her lips together before speaking. “Last night, I dreamed of my mother. She told me you’re a good man and that she supports me dating you. She even said…”
“What did she say?”
A faint blush crept across Suzy’s face as she lowered her gaze shyly. “She said I should marry you sooner rather than later.”
