Stephen clenched his teeth and unwillingly stepped on the brake. The car was less than a hundred meters away from the police station.
The man in the rear seat chuckled. “It seems like you’ve lost.”
He pulled out a smoke grenade and detonated it in the car.

Smoke billowed inside the car, forcing Stephen to leap out, coughing and gasping for air.
The pedestrians were shocked, thinking that the car had caught on fire.
Stephen made his way to the back of the car to open the door, but the kidnapper was long
gone.
“Fuck!” he cursed. He felt defeated and aggrieved. He was less than a hundred meters away from sending the kidnapper to jail, yet he was forced to let the man go.
On top of that, he was held up for a full five minutes at the truck, which was more than enough time for the kidnappers to transfer Richard somewhere else.
He pulled his phone out to call for help. He ordered his men to seal all the possible routes out of the city and set up roadblocks to inspect the passing vehicles. He could not afford to lose Richard now.
Meanwhile, the mayor’s assistant, Tommy, was driving up to the freeway with Richard tied up in the trunk.
Despite the roadblock ahead, Tommy pulled his identification out and got clearance easily.
With that, Richard was brought out of the city.
George had no idea what just happened. He was still annoyed by the CEOS walking out on him. He inwardly scoffed, thinking that the CEOS had made a huge mistake because as more and more wealthy people invested in the city, the local economy would skyrocket.
They would regret their decision today.
George pulled his phone out and called Stephen “Stephen, how did the deal go?” Stephen had yet to recover from the shock. He said timidly, “It didn’t go through.” “What? What happened? Why didn’t it go through?” George asked, his tone shocked. “We ran into kidnappers and Richard was abducted,” Stephen said in a devastated tone. He had been played with like a toy.

“Richard has been abducted?!” George was also shocked.

He asked, “Did you call the police?”
“I did. I’ve already set up roadblocks at every exit of the city. The police are pulling surveillance footage to locate Richard,” Stephen said.
George felt a slight relief knowing that the necessary measures had been taken. With the exits blocked, the kidnappers would be trapped in the city. The surveillance footage would help the police locate the kidnappers soon.
Soon after, they got an update on the incident.
Surveillance cameras captured one of the trucks.
The truck entered a factory, but a while later, more than twenty of the same trucks emerged and scattered in different directions.
The police quickly tracked down the trucks but neglected the mayor’s car driving out a minute after the trucks left.
The trucks were stopped and checked, but there were no signs of Richard. Not even the factory had any clues.
The police were forced to go through the surveillance footage again and ultimately spotted the suspicious car.
They tracked it to the freeway, but it managed to get through the roadblock and disappeared beyond the horizo

George and Stephen were shocked.
