Asher’s heart softened at the sight of Evelina’s woeful expression.
He turned to the inver and said, “I know Eve well, she’s not the type to cheat. Besides, with her grades being this low, there’s no point in cheating, is there?”

It was curious how eager they were to investigate the other one, yet put up every possible obstacle when it came to this girl!

Asher, with a stern face, protested, “No, you can’t just investigate willy–nilly. We have a lawyer.”
“Mr. Langston, resisting the investigation like this will also be noted. Are you obstructing because you have something to hide?” “How could I possibly have something to hide? Eve is sensitive. What if this investigation traumatizes her?”
The investigator pushed back deliberately, “But Mr. Langston, you didn’t seem to have these concerns when we were investigating Lemira. Is your bias that obvious?”
Lemira blasted Asher directly, “Yeah, why is it okay to suspect me of cheating and not Evelina? Who says a poor student can’t cheat? Maybe she’d get a zero without cheating?”
Her gaze was icy and laden with sarcasm.
Asher was momentarily speechless, his expression awkward, “Because I trust Eve, she’s a good kid.”
Lemira was different, always competing with Evelina for affection. It wouldn’t be surprising if she resorted to such acts.
Lemira scoffed, recalling how Asher had always trusted Evelina in her past life.
Lucian added, “Asher, I trust Evelina too. But to clear any doubts, it’s better to comply with the investigation.”

Evelina was panicking inwardly but thought they might not have any evidence. After all, she had cheated for years without getting caught by any teachers. Even when she was once suspected, someone else took the blame for her.
Thinking this, Evelina said, a picture of grievance, “Asher, I can handle a little injustice. As long as it doesn’t tarnish the Langston family’s name, I’m willing to do anything.”
Hearing this, Asher grew angry.

The investigator pulled out a video on their phone, “Here, clear as day. She passed notes with the girl seated in front of her.”
Watching the video, Lemira smirked, “Pretty clear footage there.”
They had caught Evelina red–handed. Lemira was curious to see how Evelina would deny it this time, with the evidence laid bare.
