Just as Suzy’s hand was about to touch the mask, the man, despite being immobilized, suddenly opened his eyes. His sharp gaze locked onto her, and he spoke with a quiet intensity, “So, have you made up your mind?”
Those simple words were enough to make Suzy pull her hand back without hesitation.
Without a trace of embarrassment, she straightened up and pointed at him. “I’m going to bed, and it’s time for you to leave.”
The man didn’t move. Instead, he shifted further onto the bed and patted the spot next to him. “Join me.

Suzy crossed her arms, one hand resting on her hip. “Don’t make me throw you out.”
“Relax, we’re only sharing a bed. Nothing else, he said with a mischievous wink. Then, with a grin, he added, “Of course, if you need anything, I’m happy to oblige.”
That was the final straw. Suzy grabbed him by the shoulders, yanked him off the bed, and marched him straight to the door. Without another word, she shoved him out and kicked the door shut behind him.
From outside, his amused voice rang out, “If you hurt my back, it’s your loss!”
“Get lost!” she barked.
He didn’t reply, and after a moment, Suzy heard the sound of his footsteps fading into the distance. She exhaled deeply, crossed the room to the bed, and immediately started changing the sheets.
Once everything was clean, she took a shower and finally went to bed.
Lying there in the quiet, her mind kept drifting back to his eyes. There was something about them–familiar, almost unnervingly so.
No, it couldn’t be him.
Plenty of people had similar eyes. A pair of eyes alone didn’t prove anything.
Unbeknownst to her, from the moment the man appeared, her earlier gloomy mood had slowly dissolved without her even realizing it.
By the time she woke up the next morning, it was to the sound of her phone ringing.
Seeing that it was Charlotte calling, Suzy sat up against the headboard and answered. The moment she picked up, she couldn’t resist teasing, “Not mad anymore?”
On the other end, Charlotte snapped, “Shut up! Suzy, I’m warning you, if you ever doubt me again, we’re cutting ties!”

“I wasn’t doubting you,” Suzy explained quickly. “In this world, I might question anyone, but never you or Claude.”
Hearing Suzy’s response, Charlotte’s tone finally softened, though a hint of grievance lingered. “Easy for you to say. If you didn’t doubt me, why would you look at me like that? And not just once!
“Do you have any idea how much that look of yours feels like the sharpest knife in the world cutting into me?”
“You’re overthinking it,” Suzy said, though comforting others was far from her strength.
“Hmph…” Charlotte huffed, but it was clear her anger had dissipated. “You said Lisa’s last look seemed off. I thought about it last night, and it does feel like something was wrong So maybe Lisa wasn’t acting alone. Someone else could have been behind it?”
“Anne’s words aren’t necessarily all lies,” Suzy replied, propping a pillow behind her back. “A person’s gaze never lies. Yesterday, the way she looked at Lisa felt unfamiliar, detached.

Suzy rubbed her temples out of habit. “It’s possible.”

The two chatted for a bit longer before Charlotte changed the subject. “Stay out of whatever’s going on with Anne. If you get involved, running into Dylan will just sour your mood again. Leave it all to me. I’m curious to see how Dylan plans to handle this.”
Before Suzy could respond, Charlotte ended the call.
Looking at the screen, Suzy couldn’t help but laugh. “Where do they get the idea that Dylan has the power to affect my mood?”
He was nothing to her now–hadn’t been for a long time!
Oh well, let them think whatever they wanted.
