Alaric was speechless for a moment on the other end of the line. He never, in his wildest dreams, thought that Lemira would actually score the highest in the city.
After a while, Alaric finally said, “Well, i–if she’s the top of the city, we should definitely celebrate.”
His sister, who had never really shone academically, had suddenly become the city’s number one.
This turnaround left Alaric struggling to adjust.
eah, I was thinking the same. I have to be there for this occasion. I’ll finish up here and then bring her over. Keep an eye on Dorian for me, will you?”
“Sure, no problem. Since Lemira did so well this time, should we throw her a party too?”
Alaric had been doing a lot of reflection since he lost the competition and felt that he had indeed been a bit too harsh on Lemira in the past. So, he wanted to use this opportunity to mend their sibling relationship.
Lucian, feeling gratified, said, “Look at me, forgetting the obvious. Of course, we should throw her a grand celebration party. She scored the highest in the city; Asher would be thrilled once he knows.”
After hanging up, Lucian, filled with excitement, entered the restaurant.
Lemira was seated in the center, the focus of everyone’s attention. When Lucian appeared, someone stood up, “The top–scorer’s brother is here, make room for him.”
Lucian took his seat beside Lemira, feeling a mix of emotions.
He was used to being respected as Mr. Langston wherever he went, never imagining that one day he’d bask in his sister’s glory.
Caught up in the atmosphere, his excitement grew.
He filled his glass to the brim and raised a toast to the teachers and the principal, “This one’s for you, for all your support and guidance towards Lemira, enabling her to achieve such great results.”
“It’s all Lemira’s hard work, we didn’t do much.”
Seeing Lucian drink glass after glass, Lemira couldn’t help but grab his hand, whispering, “Are you trying to kill yourself?”
“Lemmy, I’m fine. It’s a day of joy, and I should toast for you.”
Lucían felt a lump in his throat; he had to do something for Lemira, or he’d go mad. He made a round of toasts on behalf of Lemira.
Lemira felt uncomfortable. She didn’t need Lucian’s so–called compensation now because she wouldn’t look back.
Glancing down at her phone, she saw a message from Orion. [Remember, no drinking at the dinner.]
[I know.]
[Call me if you need anything.]
Lemira felt a sense of relief seeing his message, but she instinctively didn’t mention Lucian was here too.
The dinner soon ended.
Lucian was slightly drunk. After saying goodbye to the teacher and the principal, Lemira helped him to the car.
The driver had been waiting outside and came over to help Lucian into the car.
Lemira let go and was about to leave when Lucian grabbed her hand, “Lemmy, come to the hospital with me?”
“Let the driver take you!”
Lemira shook off his hand; she had no desire to rehash sibling sentiments.
Back when she was looked down upon, and now, becoming the top scorer, he wanted to mend their relationship? Impossible.
Holding his stomach in discomfort, Lucian said, “What do you plan to do about Dorian’s situation?”
Lemira paused, “That’s none of your business.”
“I’ve already made an appointment with the school doctor at the hospital.”
Lemira’s expression changed, turning back to Lucian, “Why would you do that?”
