Suzy snapped out of her initial shock, quickly regaining her composure.
She brushed his hand off and kept her tone steady. “You think just because you have feelings for me, you can interfere with my life as you please?”
Allen was left speechless.
He could only admire her resolve. Suzy was truly one of a kind—strong enough to pick up and let go without hesitation. With nothing left to worry about, he quietly slipped away; this was clearly something the two of them needed to handle alone.
Noting Allen’s quiet exit from the corner of her eye, Suzy gave a slight, mocking laugh and continued, “Dylan, let me remind you of something you once said.”
She held his gaze firmly. “You told me you were the only one who could decide what I meant to you. If you acknowledged me, then I was something; if you didn’t, I was nothing. Well, guess what? Now I’m the one deciding. If I don’t acknowledge you, then your so- called love means nothing to me.”
It was something he’d once said on a rainy night. He was heading out laté, and Suzy, concerned for his safety, had asked a simple question. “Do you really have to go?”
His reply had been impatient and dismissive, “What, you think you can control me? You may call yourself Mrs. Wright, but unless I say so, you’re nothing to me.”
Dylan remembered saying something like that back when he’d misunderstood Suzy. But things were different now.

She didn’t have to think hard to guess who’d told him. It was either Diana or Grace. They’d been eager for him to know how she felt. But she’d refused, wanting to tell him herself, if it ever came to that. The truth was, she’d never had the chance.
For those three years, he couldn’t stand her to the point where even her voice irritated him. Talking to him was restricted to a word or two; she never got the opportunity to confess.
Her gaze
turned cold. “From the beginning, you assumed I had ulterior motives, didn’t you? So even if I had told you, would you have believed me?”
Dylan hesitated, thrown off balance. “How could you know I wouldn’t, if you never tried?”
Yes, he’d treated her poorly back then, but she’d loved him all along without ever showing it. How was he supposed to see anything but a scheme? After all, to him, she’d been just a woman who’d appeared out of nowhere and manipulated her way into his life. How could he not have doubts?
The disdain in her eyes sharpened, and she gave a bitter smile. “So, it’s not your fault at all, right? I brought it all on myself?”
She laughed coldly. “Of all the people I could’ve loved, I had to fall for a heartless jerk like you!”
