“Diana, listen to me–you’re not ugly, not at all. You’re just as beautiful as you were before
“No, it’s not true. You’re lying,” Diana sobbed, more tears slipping from her tightly closed eyes. “They all say I’m ugly… I heard them. They said even with all the money in the world, I’ll never look the same again.”
Suzy guessed that “they” were the hospital staff.
She had once overheard them talking too, and she shot a look of quiet disapproval at Dylan. If he’d spent less time with Anne and more time noticing his own sister, maybe he would’ve seen what Diana was going through.
Without commenting, Suzy continued using the hypnosis to reassure Diana, gradually soothing her until she calmed enough to rest.
Leaving Diana tucked in, Suzy stepped out of the room.
Dylan’s eyes narrowed as he followed her. “How is she?”
Suzy ignored him, heading down the hall. After a few steps, Dylan caught her by the arm. Do you always treat a patient’s family with this level of respect?”
Clearly, it wasn’t what he intended to say; his words seemed to slip out without his control. “Family?” Her tone was laced with open scorn. “Good to know you still remember you’re her family. I thought you were too preoccupied with your ‘beloved‘ to notice her.”
A faint smile tugged at his lips. “So, you’re keeping close tabs on my whereabouts?” He leaned closer, his gaze intent. “Could it be that you still care about me?”
Suzy shook off his hand. “Where you go and who you meet is your business, Dylan. I only wanted to tell you that Diana’s mental health is deteriorating. If you don’t want things to get worse, you’d do well to give her a little more attention.”
Suzy’s words had barely left her lips when Dylan replied, “She doesn’t need me–she needs you.
Suzy was left speechless.
“You saw it yourself,” he continued, his voice steady.
“She barely notices I’m there. She only cares about you…” He paused before adding, “If
you truly care about her, then when she’s discharged tomorrow, bring her back to Bayview Heights with you.”

Even for Diana’s sake, that was a line Suzy couldn’t cross. She had no interest in rekindling any connection with Dylan–none at all.
Sensing her reluctance, he added, “I feel the same way, Suzy. If you don’t want something, neither do I. Don’t read too much into it.”
The moment he said it, Dylan regretted his harsh tone.
He hadn’t intended to sound so blunt, but every time he saw Suzy’s look of disdain, his temper flared out of control. Still, he knew that without those words, convincing her to return to Bayview Heights was a fool’s errand.
Suzy was momentarily taken aback.
Did he mean he didn’t want to see her, either?
Well, that was just fine.
Instead of going to Bayview Heights, Suzy took Diana to the Harlow estate.
Just as Dylan had pointed out, Diana needed her–not him.
Having her at the Harlow estate made it easier for Suzy to keep an eye on her and manage her treatment.
Besides, if Dylan truly didn’t want to see her, as he claimed, he’d likely avoid dropping by. He’d be too busy with Anne anyway, wouldn’t he?
Yet to her surprise, Dylan showed up that same evening, settling in with no intention of leaving, even as it grew late.
Seeing he had no plans to leave, Suzy finally issued a pointed dismissal. “Mr. Wright, it’s late. We don’t have any extra rooms here for guests.”
