Mark looked her straight in the eye.
“You said that three years ago, during the assassination attempt, they mentioned the Goodwin family. Have you considered that they may have done that on purpose? They know your strength and might have feared you’d rise again. Pinning everything on my family could have been their way of making us the scapegoat.”
Martin, who had been observing Mark closely, turned to Suzy and said, “Suzy, I think Mark might have a point. Over the years, he may have picked up some less–than–ideal habits in his work, but his conscience is intact–I can vouch for that.”
Suzy’s gaze shifted between Martin and Mark. It was clear Martin trusted his son deeply. Being his only child and devoted to him, it was natural for Martin to place his faith in him.
Everything that needed to be said had been said, though some things couldn’t be openly discussed in Martin’s presence.
After a moment’s thought, Suzy gave him a warm smile. “Grandpa, it’s nearly lunchtime. The kitchen should have the meal ready. Let me walk you back.”
Seeing the calm in her expression, Martin’s worry eased. “Suzy, now that you’re my granddaughter, I won’t stand idly by while you seek justice–especially if someone is trying to frame the Goodwin family.”
He then turned to Mark. “Send someone to investigate and find out who has the nerve to do such a thing!”
Leaving the Goodwin estate, Suzy immediately instructed Allen to place surveillance on Mark. The true purpose of this visit wasn’t to force Mark into a confession; it was merely to rattle him. For a crime of that magnitude, he would hardly admit guilt so easily. But to cover his tracks, he’d almost certainly make a move soon…

Suzy had anticipated that he’d know of her arrival. It wasn’t that Hawk was lurking in the shadows watching her every move; rather, he’d deliberately exposed his location. This address was one he’d chosen to reveal to her; otherwise, even for her, tracking him down would have been no simple task.

She walked from the entrance to the living room, where a table was already set with tea, pastries, and fruit.
“Junior, you must be tired from your journey. Please, sit and rest a moment.‘
The vast living room echoed with his voice, but Hawk was nowhere in sight.
Suzy glanced around. “You invite me all this way, yet won’t show your face?”

A low chuckle drifted from somewhere in the room. “Junior, do you miss me? It’s been so many years; I’ve missed you too.”
Suzy found his flirtatious tone deeply irritating–almost repulsive. “Hawk, I didn’t come here to reminisce…”
“Our mentor often mentioned how impatient you were,” Hawk interrupted, his voice calm but laced with amusement. “Very well, since you’re so eager, let’s get straight to the point.”
