Chapter 3
After Ethan took Iris to the hospital, I sat in the living room.
Fingers subconsciously turned the wedding ring on the ring finger.
This is the only proof of identity I ever received as Mrs. Matthews.
The ill–fitting ring was wrapped several times with a red thread by me, so that it could barely fit on my finger.
Five years have passed, and the superficial gilding has faded, revealing the silver underneath.
When I bought the wedding ring that year, the salesperson looked at me with disdain.
“How could such a wealthy husband, who has so much money, possibly be unwilling to buy? He must have been forced into marriage and just casually went along with it. This woman is really
pitiful.”
But I happily accepted the ring that Ethan personally picked out for me and never wanted to take it
off.
I asked him to wear the men’s wedding ring, but he refused.
I kept pestering, and he simply said he lost it.
So the couple, his hands always empty, as if he had never been bound by this marriage either.
I cut off the red thread and took off the ring, while Ethan’s sarcastic remark came from behind me.

‘Finally willing to let go? Wasn’t it a love that couldn’t be parted, holding on till death?”
He walked in, sucking on his cigarette and blowing out smoke, giving me a sidelong glance.
At this moment, his expression instantly reminded me of the wedding day when he brought the first person who intervened in our relationship into our bridal chamber.
I pulled the intruder’s hair and dragged her out of the door.
Ethan also had the same indifferent attitude, holding a cigarette.
“Hit, go ahead and hit, the Matthews family has plenty of money to compensate.”
“I pursued one and got ten. Anyway there are plenty of women. I can be the groom every night.”
I used to hate Ethan the most, always causing trouble but acting superior, making me feel like a desperate loser.

But, I was leaving, I didn’t care anymore.
I avoided him and went straight into the cloakroom to pack my luggage.
Ethan rushed in a bit impatiently and opened the suitcase.
“What luggage to collect? Are we leaving?”
Was there panic in his eyes?
It was really ridiculous.
I sidestepped him, speaking calmly.
“It was too cold, so I went out with my good friend to soak in hot springs.”
Ethan breathed a sigh of relief.
While I was taking a shower, steam filled the air, and Ethan pushed open the bathroom door and
walked in.
He said he would come to help me wash as an apology for today.
I immediately put on a bathrobe and avoided him with disgust.
“Keep your service for your lovers, I don’t want it!”
Ethan’s face turned pale, and he sneered, saying.
“Megan, what were you pretending to be a saint? Women have temper too. Isn’t it just because men
were not enthusiastic enough in bed? Your husband loved you passionately tonight!”
He grabbed my waist and immediately opened my bathrobe, burying his head downwards.
“Go away! Don’t touch me!”
I struggled desperately, lifting my knee to attack the roots of his descendants.
Ethan dodged the attack, his eyes bloodshot with anger, and he fiercely smashed the bottles in the bathroom onto the ground.
“Fine, if you’re not willing, there are plenty of people waiting!”
Ethan slammed the door and left.
I tightly held onto my bathrobe and curled up anxiously as I fell asleep.

In the middle of the night, on the other end of the wall next to the head of the bed, there came a vague and rhythmic sound, which woke me up.
Immediately after, the man’s teasing and the woman’s singing, one after another, entered my ears.
The next room was a nursery prepared for the newborn baby.
Ethan intentionally disgusted me.
The door was wide open, and I walked straight to the two of them, staring at them intently without
blinking.
Ethan turned his head and saw me with a calm expression. His face changed, and he yelled at me to
get out.
The eye sockets felt a bit sour.
But it doesn’t matter, out of sight, out of mind.
It will be fine soon.
