Suzy’s eyes widened, and without hesitation, she wrenched her arm free from Dylan’s grip and sprinted toward Claude, who was on the verge of rolling into the pond.
Despite her speed, she was still a step too late.
Claude splashed into the water.
If he had been able–bodied, she wouldn’t have worried so much, but with his disability, he was in immediate danger.
Without a second thought, Suzy jumped in after him.
It took every ounce of strength to pull him out, her height difference making the task even harder.
Finally, she managed to drag him to the shore.

She called his name several times, but he didn’t respond.
Panicked, she immediately started performing CPR.
After several compressions, he coughed up water, but his eyes remained shut.
Suzy pressed her lips into a thin line, pinched his nose, and tilted his chin, preparing to begin mouth–to–mouth resuscitation. But just as her lips hovered inches from his, a powerful grip pulled her back abruptly.
It was Dylan.
Her gaze turned icy. “Get out of my way!”
Focused on saving Claude, she didn’t want to waste a single second on arguing.
“You’re not trained for this, and you might delay his recovery,” Dylan said, then turned to the crowd, his gaze landing on Diana. “You–you do it!”
Diana’s eyes went wide. “Me?”
She’d taken first aid classes for Grace’s sake, but… was she really about to give a complete stranger mouth–to–mouth?
“Hurry up!” Dylan snapped.

Claude to begin CPR. The idea of giving mouth–to–mouth resuscitation to a man she barely knew made her heart race— but she had no time to think about it.
With so many people around, Diana thought, surely there had to be a doctor in the crowd– why did it have to be her?
She didn’t want to do this, not even a little.
She reluctantly lowered her head toward Claude
Just then, Claude coughed, spluttering back to life.
“He’s awake! He’s awake!” Diana exclaimed in relief, more thrilled than she could have imagined.
Seeing this, Suzy quickly pushed past Dylan and knelt beside Claude. “Claude, you’re awake! Are you feeling okay?”
He
gave her a slight shake of his head, smiling faintly. “I’m fine… sorry to worry you.
Even though he said he was fine, Suzy wasn’t convinced. She took hold of his wrist, quietly checking his pulse, feeling the irregularity beneath her fingers.
Just as she was about to say something, Mark approached with Martin by his side.
Mark spoke first. “We’ve called an ambulance. It should be here any minute.”
Martin nodded in agreement. “We can’t take any risks; a hospital checkup is essential.”
Claude glanced at them both, smiling reassuringly. “Thank you for your concern, but I’m really fine…”
Suzy cut him off firmly, “Grandpa and Mark are right. Let’s get you checked at the hospital, just to be safe.
As if on cue, the ambulance arrived.
Suzy held Claude’s hand the entire time, refusing to let go, and didn’t even consider changing out of her wet clothes. She climbed into the ambulance with him, focused solely on his well–being, as though no one else in the world mattered.
Her intense concern for Claude didn’t go unnoticed by the crowd, who began murmuring quietly among themselves.
“The way they’re acting, that doesn’t seem like just a professional relationship.”
“I agree! The way they look at each other… if anyone were to say there’s nothing between them, I’d be the last person to believe it!”
