Martin ordered his men to break down the door.
The moment it swung open, the scene inside left everyone gasping in shock, especially Anne, who was standing at the front of the crowd. She froze for several seconds, then rushed inside, attempting to slam the door shut.
But Suzy wasn’t about to let her get away with that.
She stepped forward and held the door firmly open. “Miss Wheeler, after all that effort to open the door, why the hurry to close it again? Just because it’s your mother inside, you want to keep it all to yourself?”
“Suzy!” Anne spat her name, practically hissing. “Did you plan this?”
“Plan what?” Suzy shrugged with feigned innocence. “I just stepped away to change my dress. In fact, one of the maids was standing guard outside my door the whole time.”
Suzy beckoned a maid over. “Why don’t you tell everyone what happened while I was gone?”
The maid nodded quickly. “Yes, I accidentally stained Miss Frost’s dress, so she went back to her room to change, and I stayed outside her door the whole time.”
“There, you see?” Suzy turned back to Anne, her gaze sharp. “Miss Wheeler, do we have a problem here? With so many people around, why am I the only one you’re accusing?”
Anne’s face went from pale to flushed, especially as she continued her futile attempts to
shut the door.
Despite Suzy’s seemingly light touch, she couldn’t get it to close.
In a low voice that only Suzy could hear, she seethed, “Let go!”
“Anne, I warned you not to mess with me. Why don’t you ever listen?” Suzy replied, her voice equally soft. “Since you’re so intent on this little game, I’ll gladly play along.”
The chill in Suzy’s eyes sent a shiver down Anne’s spine. “What else are you planning?”
“Oh, just making sure the performance you started reaches its grand finale.” Suzy smirked. “With so many spectators here, we wouldn’t want to leave them hanging now, would we?”
She leaned in slightly, casting her gaze into the room.
“One, two, three, four, five… five men in total! Ms. Helena, no matter how desperate you are, you might consider choosing the setting with a bit more discretion. This is the Goodwin estate, not your own home.”

Martin, already furious, felt his anger deepen.
Hearing Suzy’s words, he seethed, “Call Mr. William immediately! I want to know exactly what grievance he has against the Goodwin family that justifies such a stunt!”
