Chapter 6
Meanwhile, I had traveled with the professor through mountains and rivers to reach the research facility.
Everyone here was an extraordinary talent, not to be underestimated.
The professor even brought in a medical team to create a personalized treatment plan for me.
After a thorough examination, the doctor slowly shook his head.
“But… your ability to have children will never come back.”
After everything I’d been through, it was already a miracle that I was alive.
Besides, as long as I’m alive, there are infinite possibilities for the future.
Whether or not I can have kids won’t change the amazing life I have ahead of me.
I smiled lightly, lifting my head to look at my classmates, all of them looking at me with concern.
“It’s okay, thanks so much for all the help, everyone.”
“I’ll stick with my rehab and make sure I don’t hold anyone back!”
The heavy atmosphere lifted with my joke, and everyone laughed, soon returning to their work.
I spent a long time here in peaceful surroundings.
No more hunger, no more cold, no more beatings or insults.
Nobody mocked or ignored me, or belittled me.
Everyone treated me with kindness, and because of my condition, they were extra considerate.
When my right leg had finally healed enough to walk normally,
they even threw me a celebration.
It was the first time in my life I’d had a cake.
I made a wish, but before I could blow out the candles, I saw him.
Lucas Henderson, dressed in a sharp suit, but with exhaustion clear in his eyes.

Of course, I was doing well.
You look… like you’re doing well.”
I’d gotten away from the garbage and found meaning in life.
I’d made friends and met people who genuinely cared about me.
It was a hundred times better than the years I spent in the Mogane family.
I looked at Lucas Henderson and couldn’t help but mock him.
“Didn’t expect to run into you here.”
“The Henderson CEO’s got quite the reach–after causing such a big mess, you managed to walk away unscathed and even find your way here.”
Lucas Henderson gave a bitter smile, his eyes lowering slightly.
“You have no idea what I’ve sacrificed just to see you.”
“I don’t want to know.”
“Whatever you’ve sacrificed, it doesn’t compare to even a fraction of what I’ve endured over these years.”
I slowly walked up to him, unbuttoned my coat, and revealed the scars crisscrossing my body.
“Thanks to your ‘care,‘ I spent five hellish years in prison.”
“They cornered me, beat me up, broke my leg, pushed me from a height, ruptured my kidneys, and forced ice water into me so I’d be infertile for life.”
I placed his hand on the scar on my shoulder.
“See this, Lucas Henderson? All of this, you did this to me.”
The wounds had healed, but the scars would be with me forever.
Just like everything Lucas Henderson did to me.
A simple apology couldn’t wipe that away.
The raised scars felt like fire to Lucas Henderson’s heart.
He pulled his hand back, his face full of shock.

Then, he hesitated, reaching out to touch me again, but seemed afraid of hurting me.
After a long silence, his eyes welled up.
“I didn’t mean to…”
“I only did it to teach you a lesson, to make sure you wouldn’t spread rumors after getting out.”
“I didn’t expect them to do this to you.”
Was it really unexpected, or did he just not care?
In five years, who had ever cared whether I lived or died?
Maybe, to them, it would’ve been the perfect outcome if I had died in prison.
But thankfully, life had other plans.
Not only had I survived, but now I would watch every single person who hurt me pay the price.
