After Suzy saved Martin, Mark, naturally came by to thank her.
“Miss Frost, I can’t express my gratitude enough for saving my father.”
Though Mark was already fifty, he looked no older than his mid–thirties. He wore a finely tailored black suit, perfectly pressed, with every hair in place, and the gold–rimmed glasses added a touch of scholarly elegance.
“You’re too kind, Mr. Goodwin. I just happened to be passing by. In that situation, anyone would have done the same,” Suzy replied politely, then added with a look of concern,
“Is
Mr. Martin alright?”
“My father is in good health, thanks to you.”
“Oh, that’s a relief…” Suzy replied, appearing casually thoughtful. “Older folks are especially vulnerable to falls. I was lucky to reach him quickly; just a second slower, and who knows how bad it could have been.
Mark’s expression shifted slightly. “Yes, we were fortunate to have you there, Miss Frost.”
“No need to be so formal.” Suzy kept a warm, polite smile. “It’s nothing serious on my end –just a little pain in my chest that a few days‘ rest will fix. Please, Mr. Goodwin, there’s really no need to make such a fuss.”
“Regardless, we owe you a debt of gratitude.” Mark, experienced in handling delicate situations from years in business, was always careful with his words. He took out a card and placed it on the bedside table. “Please, use this for your recovery.”
Suzy’s gaze lowered to the card, her eyes darkening slightly before she looked up, a hint of wounded pride in her expression.
“Mr. Goodwin, what’s the meaning of this? I may just be an ordinary person, and if it weren’t for representing my employer, I’d never have had the honor of visiting your family. But does that mean you believe I saved your father with some ulterior motive?”
As she spoke, tears began to well up. “No wonder people hesitate to do good these days- always misunderstood. Who wants their dignity trampled on?”
Mark observed Suzy’s expression closely, searching for any hint of pretense, but found none. His dark eyes flickered behind his glasses. “Miss Frost, you misunderstand. This was simply a gesture of appreciation.”
Suzy picked up the card and pressed it back into his hand. “I appreciate your kindness, Mr. Goodwin. I’m not exactly in the best shape to see you out, so I’ll bid you goodbye here.”
Glancing down at the card in his hand, Mark replied, “Then please rest well, Miss Frost. I’ll stop by again another day.

After Mark left, Allen emerged from the bathroom where he’d been hiding. “Seems like Mark won’t be easy to handle.”
Suzy gave a light scoff. “Not necessarily. Have you looked further into his connection with Dylan?”
Allen grabbed an apple from the fruit basket, settled down on the edge of her bed, and started peeling it.
“Same as before–just a casual acquaintance, nothing out of the ordinary. But let’s be real, if their relationship was purely superficial, would Mark really go against Claude just to back. Dylan? Or is it just because Claude, being in a wheelchair, seems less threatening than Dylan?”
Suzy kicked him lightly. “Get lost!”
Allen rolled his eyes. “I’m just saying. Despite being the current head of the Harlow family, without your help, he wouldn’t stand a chance against Dylan.”
Suzy shot him a look. “What did Dylan give you to make you suddenly switch from hating him to being a fan?”
Allen shot back with a smirk. “Just stating facts. You can’t deny his abilities just because he treated you badly once!”
