Suzy was eager for an answer, but after waiting what felt like ages, Dylan still hadn’t replied.
“Has he fallen asleep?” she muttered, exhaling a frustrated sigh as she tossed her phone. aside and tried to get some rest herself.
But sleep didn’t come.
After tossing and turning, she finally picked up her phone and sent Victor a voice call request. She knew the timing was a bit unreasonable, but that was precisely the point. If it hadn’t been for him, she’d never have crossed paths with Dylan in the first place.
The call rang several times before he declined. She immediately called again, and he rejected it once more. This back–and–forth continued until, on the fifth attempt….
“Nadia, are you serious right now?” he grumbled, clearly irritated.
“Maybe check who you’re talking to, Mr. Steele?” Suzy said, lowering her voice to alter her
tone.
“T? Up this early?”
“Of course. Greeting Mr. Steele is best done bright and early.”
“Oh, come on, have some mercy. If I did something to tick you off, just say it. I haven’t exactly been well–rested lately, so maybe save the friendly wake–up call?”
Suzy gave a cold laugh. “We’re not friends, but I’d appreciate it if you showed a little professional integrity.”
“What’s going on?”
“Last time, you handed out my contact information without permission. I let it slide as a favor to my future sister–in–law. But now, leaking my personal details? Tell me, where exactly did I wrong you, Mr. Steele?”
“Leaking your details?” Victor sounded utterly baffled. “I’ve known you for years, yet I don’t even know your full name, haven’t even met you face–to–face. If I don’t know your details, how could I possibly leak them?”
“Dylan Wright.”
“Dylan? You mean he’s got your info?”
Her purpose achieved, Suzy hung up without another word.
Knowing Victor’s personality, Suzy figured he’d immediately reach out to Dylan, which would give her the answers she was looking for

But Suzy was wrong. Instead of calling, Victor went straight to Dylan’s place. What should have been a forty–minute drive to Bayview Heights, he managed in just over twenty.
The moment he walked in, barely pausing to catch his breath, he got straight to the point.” Dylan, do you have any information about T?”
Dylan’s eyes darkened slightly as he masked the brief flicker of interest. “You came all the way here this early, just for that?”
“Just for that?” Victor’s voice rose. “This is huge. Do you have any idea how terrifying this is? How exactly did you find out?”
Victor shared the same curiosity as Suzy. He’d been dealing with T for years; she knew
hT practically everything about him, while he’d never managed to uncover a thing about her.
Dylan glanced at him, turned, and walked further inside, giving no answer at all.
Victor followed in frustration. “What’s that supposed to mean? We grew up together–no secrets between us, remember?”
Dylan poured himself a glass of water, took a long sip, and finally said, “She seems.
nervous.”
Victor didn’t miss a beat. “Of course, she’s nervous. No one’s ever gotten close to finding
out who she is, and now you somehow managed to. How could she not be worried? Come on, what have you got on her?”
He leaned in, eyes gleaming with anticipation. “So, do you have a photo or something? You have no idea what it’s been like getting outsmarted by some mystery woman all these years. If she’s stunning, fine, I can live with that. But if she’s ugly…”
