Chapter 4
Vera enlarged the photo over and over again, and it seemed to bite into her physically. In the end, she became apathetic.
She tightly held onto her phone, her fingertips trembling. After a long time, she cried herself to sleep.
Later, she was lifted by a pair of strong hands and gently placed on a soft bed.
She opened her sleepy eyes, saw Jeremy, and instinctively let go of him. Her expression was distant and aloof.
As the two pairs of eyes met, Jeremy saw resentment and a hint of hatred in Vera’s eyes. His heart skipped a beat because that was his first sight of Vera’s negative emotions towards him. Before he expressed his concern, his attention was drawn to the wine bottle on the floor.
He pulled Vera into his arms, and his face was full of agitation. “Vera, didn’t I tell you not to drink wine, for the sake of your health? Why didn’t you cherish your health? I am worried sick.”
Vera gently pushed Jeremy away and casually replied, “I need an outlet for my feelings sometimes. I like the hilarity of breaking the rules and the excitement of cheating on you.”
Knowing that Vera was tipsy, Jeremy still had a flash of panic on his face. In a trembling voice, he explained, “Vera, I… I couldn’t help you choose your wedding dress because something was up. I am sorry. I will give you whatever you want, so don’t torment me with your indulgence, okay? Look at you now! My heart is aching.”
Vera calmly looked at Jeremy’s face, and self–mockery appeared on hers.
What a good actor Jeremy was!
Unfortunately, Vera had learned of the truth and would not be deceived anymore.
She forced a smile and said, “Okay. I won’t drink again. Tired, I wanna sleep now.”
At the sight of Vera’s smile, Jeremy breathed a sigh of relief. He carefully tucked Vera in and planted
a tender kiss on her forehead. After the little night light was on, he gently closed the door behind him and walked away.
Jeremy was quite a gentleman before Vera, and their most intimate act was a kiss.
Jeremy had been carried away by passion for once. However, he managed to repres

Smiling, Vera asked why Jeremy could resist the impulse. He held her in his arms and kissed her over and over again.
After a long time, he answered in a hoarse voice, “Like is instinct while love is about restraint. I

you, so I don’t want you to get hurt. Let’s continue after we get married.”
His love was so touching if it wasn’t fake. Vera and Elsa were distinct from each other in a way or two, even if they were twins. That was why Jeremy had repressed his desire after he saw Vera’s face.
Jeremy loved Elsa so much that he could restrain his primal desires.
This conclusion made Vera break down. She covered her head with the quilt and cried her heart out.
The next morning, Jeremy got up early to cook breakfast for Vera.
In the past five years, Jeremy had paid special attention to Vera’s taste and customized a nutritious
diet for Vera.
The spaghetti on the table was his work, and Vera had loved it.
Now, Vera felt bitter at the sight of the spaghetti and Jeremy in the apron.
She calmly sat at the dining table, took the fork handed over by Jeremy, and tasted the spaghetti bit
by bit.
It seemed Jeremy didn’t notice Vera’s swollen and red eyes as he muttered, “Today is your father’s
birthday. I will attend the birthday banquet with you.”
Only then did Vera figure out the reason for Jeremy’s good mood.
Jeremy loved to visit the Perry family together with Vera no matter how busy he was. Vera had thought that she was lucky to find such a good man.
Now, she realized that visiting her parents was just an excuse for Jeremy. On each visit, Jeremy’s attention was easily distracted by Elsa.
More often than not, Jeremy subtly inquired about Elsa’s preferences when he prepared gifts for
the visit to the Perry family.
He used the emergency call from his hospital as his excuse whenever Elsa felt uncomfortable.
Vera couldn’t help but laugh at herself. How stupid she had been! She didn’t perceive Jeremy’s
attentiveness towards Elsa till now.
Vera was mad at Jeremy for his deception. His false love was much more hurtful than that all her
blood was drained for Elsa.
Half an hour later, Vera had a little breakfast in her stomach, and the spaghetti became disgusting, just like Jeremy’s love.
Because of the coming meeting with Elsa, Jeremy is wild with joy and fails to notice Vera’s
unhappiness.

In the end, Vera stood up and said, “I am full. I will go get changed now
“Okay, go. I’ll let the driver take the gifts to the car first.”
Vera glanced at the expensive gifts neatly arranged on the table and spotted the elegantly wrapped gift box in the corner. Inside the box was an expensive Barbie doll, Elsa’s favorite.
Tired, Vera turned around and walked upstairs.
