Chapter 4
Antonio held up his phone higher, looking a bit nervous. In a hoarse voice, he said, “Honey…”
There were beads of sweat on his forehead, and he kept glancing down from time to time. Noticing this, I realized he was eager to end the call.
I smiled and said calmly, “Go ahead.”
After hanging up, I sat on the edge of the bed. The image of Antonio being with Bonnie after he put down his phone emerged in my mind involuntarily.
The scene was like a sha Purchase completed ing my heart ruthlessly, overwhelming me with immense pain.
I met Antonio at a corporate exchange meeting the year we graduated.
Back then, he was just an inexperienced intern, and I, having just arrived in Northdale, was just a planning assistant.
We lived in the same building and became neighbors. Every day, we’d bump into each other several times either in the hallway or in the elevator.
He was a good cook. On the contrary, I had zero experience in cooking. I couldn’t even fix a sandwich.
After we got to know each other, he’d always cook an extra set. Then he’d knock on my door with a sheepish smile, blushing. “I cooked too much. Care to join me?”

During those days, we were each other’s strongest support, and we worked hard for our dreams together.
A few years passed. Thanks to his talent and efforts, he was now a project leader in a major company and purchased a place with his family’s help.
As for me, I was no longer a mere planning assistant. I built my way up and was now the company’s planning manager.
We registered our marriage and had a simple yet happy wedding.
On that day, I felt I was the happiest woman in this world.
After a few years of our marriage, he still remembered every anniversary. He always prepared thoughtful gifts, never failing to surprise me.
When I was feeling unwell, he always canceled work- regardless of how important it was–to be with me.
Our friends all envied me, saying that even though it had been years, he still looked at me with great affection.
Little did I know that our so–called unshakable love had long begun to rot five hundred days ago.
At that time, I was out of it and even got lost in my dream.
My stomach suddenly twitched violently. I clutched my belly in pain, lying on the bed.
Tears streamed down my face uncontrollably, blurring my
vision.
I wiped them away again and again, yet the bitterness and

pain in my heart just wouldn’t go away.
I really wanted to ask Antonio.
How could he become like this? He used to love me so much,
treating me as if I were the most precious treasure in this world. What had changed?
After what felt like ages, I finally pulled myself together. I reached out with difficulty and picked up my phone.
In the video call, Antonio called me “Honey“.
It meant Bonnie knew he was married.
Suppressing my anger, I texted her, “Hi. I’m the wife of your boyfriend, Antonio. I think we need to talk.”
