Chapter 7
Three days until departure.
At dawn, Adeleke arrived with a bowl of healing broth, the steam curling in the morning light.
“Made with moonflowers and sacred herbs, your favorite.” His voice was warm, his gaze soft.
I accepted it without a word, watching him retreat from the medical den. The moment he was gone, I turned to the runes that lined my den’s perimeter, activating the enchantment that allowed me to see through their wards.
Martyna appeared moments later, whining about the slick roads, demanding that Adeleke take her shopping. Concerned for the unborn pup, he arranged for luxury merchants to bring their finest wares directly to her instead–robes spun from enchanted fibers, delicate ceremonial cloth for
newborn wolves.
That night, the elder who took charge of mate bonds Hawthorne visited. “The mate–bond dissolution is complete, Luna.”
“From now on, I’m no longer Luna of the pack. Make a copy for the ‘Second Mating Gift‘ box,” I instructed Maryia.
Five years of false bonds needed to end properly.
Two days remaining.
Adeleke arrived again, this time with sun–blessed flowers and a protection amulet that reeked of
freshly cast magic. “The healers release you tomorrow. I had this blessed by the Moon Goodess for
your safety.”
I traced the rune–carved surface, but I knew the truth. Last night, he had been in the Moon Prayer Room, not for me, but for Martyna–seeking a fertility charm after she complained of cramps.
My amulet was an afterthought.
“Alpha Adeleke bought the den behind yours,” Maryia reported later. “He paid the pack family there handsomely to relocate. The deed is in Martyna’s name alone–a gift for carrying his pup.”
I said nothing.

Chapter 7
By evening, I watched through the runes‘ vision as Martyna hesitated to move her things, reluctant to leave the space she had tried to claim. But Adeleke insisted, ensuring that when I returned home, I would find no trace of her.
On my final day, Adeleke came to escort me home.
“Your birthday celebration is arranged for seven tonight, love. Invite your packmates.”
I entered our den, taking in the familiar space. Everything appeared untouched, as if Martyna had never tainted this place.
Everything–except the used crimson lip stain lying deliberately on my vanity.
A final challenge.
At lunch, Adeleke fed me tender morsels, his fingers brushing against my lips, his touch careful. The same gentleness he had given Martyna days ago.
I set my fork down. “If you dreamed I left you,” I asked suddenly, “would you grieve?”
Adeleke’s shoulders stiffened, his jaw tightening as if I had struck him. “I’d go feral without you,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. “Never leave me.”
Just as he was deep in commitment, his beta rushed in, panicked, and said, “Bleeding… the pup…”
It seemed that because of my presence, Beta didn’t finish his sentence.
Adeleke shot to his feet. “Guess whoever’s pup was naughty at your birthday celebration, I’ll go check it out.” He lied smoothly. “I’ll return to escort you.”
I caught his arm before he could leave.
“Goodbye, Adeleke.”
His muscles tensed beneath my touch. He turned, and for the first time, he truly looked at me. Looked at the emptiness in my eyes. Looked at what he had done.

I threw the amulet Adeleke had given me to the ground, then called Maryia.
“Adeleke’s with Martyna. I’m heading to the border. Proceed with tonight’s plan once I leave
Silvermoon pack territory.”
A brief pause.
Maryia, fighting back tears, inquired: “And Martyna, Luna?”
I smiled faintly.
“Make sure she receives an invitation to her own mating ceremony.”
“Understood, Luna.”
“No need to call me Luna anymore.”
“Okay Luna.”
I smiled helplessly.
An hour later, I reached the border of Silver Moon Pack.
I messaged my parents, letting them know I would be home soon.
Then, I opened my last conversation with Adeleke.
[I have two surprises for you tonight. Hope you’ll enjoy them.]
His response was immediate.
[Can’t wait, love. Still overseeing celebration preparations. Let me escort you there.]
My lips curved.
[No need. I’ll meet you at the Silver Moon Hotel.]
I had no intention of attending.
The birthday celebration was on the second floor.

The mating ceremony was on the third.
Adeleke needed to be there when Maryia sent out the ceremony invitations.
When the Ironclaw Pack’s handsome, strong gamma warriors arrived at the borders of the Silvermoon Pack in their luxury chariots, I completely disconnect my mind link with Adeleke.
From this point on, I will not accept messages from this wolf pack.
Goodbye, Adeleke. You’ll never find me again.
