Chapter 6
Adeleke hesitated. When the pack healer called, he had been dining with Martyna’s family elders. He had abandoned them immediately, terror gripping his chest at the thought of something happening to me.
“I was with important pack allies, discussing territory expansion. When I heard about the accident, I
rushed here.”
I held his gaze, my voice deceptively calm. “Just returned from the allies?”
“Yes, love. Exhausting negotiation
He rubbed his temples, feigning fatigue.
I closed my eyes in silence.
Suddenly, he stood up, and left for no reason at all. I knew it was Martyna calling him again through
the mind link.
Moments after he disappeared down the hall, Sarah arrived, her face grim.
“Guess who I saw in the elevator?”
I already knew. “Adeleke?”
Sarah’s lips curled in disgust. “The third floor is the fertility wing. He was there with Martyna, both grinning over fertility test results. He kept muttering about becoming a father.”
Adeleke’s excitement over fatherhood. The same wolf who once held me under the moonlight, whispering apologies that he could never give me a pup.
Sarah’s concern deepened when I remained eerily calm.
“She’s with pup?”
Sarah touched my forehead, as if checking for fever. “You’re not angry?”
I exhaled slowly, my voice barely above a whisper. “Adeleke is sterile.”
Sarah froze. “What?”

“The pack healers confirmed it three years ago.”
For a full year, we had tried. The disappointment, the silent grief–it had worn on me. Worried for my stress, Adeleke had undergone testing himself.
The results were undeniable. He would never sire a pup.
That night, I had accepted our fate. I had whispered my love to him, had vowed it would never change anything. And to protect his Alpha status, I had sworn the healer to secrecy.
Now, his excitement over Martyna’s pregnancy made my careful silence seem foolish.
“By the moon!” Sarah hissed, eyes flashing. “Wait until you’re safely in Ironclaw Pack, then we’ll send him the medical records. Let’s see his reaction when he realizes…”
The next afternoon, Maryia approached hesitantly.
“Alpha Adeleke asked me to deliver documents to your den,” she reported carefully. “Martyna was there–wearing sleeping robes, lounging in your living space.”
A sharp chill stabbed through my veins.
I was still in the medical den, yet Martyna had already claimed my den.
I checked the den’s protection runes. All disabled.
Adeleke had deactivated them.
“Have new runes placed tonight,” I instructed flatly. “Secretly. When they’re away.”
Late that night, Adeleke arrived at the medical den. He was covered in Martyna’s scent as he made his way to my bed.
“Love, you called for me? I’m sorry I was busy…”
“Planning my birthday celebration,” I cut in smoothly, offering him an easy excuse.
Adeleke smiled in relief, taking my hand. “You know me so well.”
I curled my fingers around his, watching the faint flicker of nerves in his eyes.

“Yes, Adeleke,” I murmured. “I know everything you do.”
His heartbeat skipped. “Lilliana…”
Before he could finish, the healer arrived, breaking the tension.
The next day, I activated the new protection runes, watching from a distance as Martyna and Adeleke shared lunch in my den.
Martyna sat in my place.
She whined about pregnancy cravings, while Adeleke patiently fed her.
“Once the pup arrives,” he mused, “we’ll ask Lilliana to be its ceremonial guardian.”
A sharp, bitter laugh curled in my throat, but I stayed silent.
Later, I watched as he gave orders to the Omega maid.
“Martyna is with pup. Tolerate her moods. And don’t tell Lilliana she’s living here!”
I turned from the vision, my heart strangely steady.
“Prepare the mating ceremony invitations,” I instructed Maryia. “I’ll provide the guest list today.”
