Chapter 2
I did not respond Adeleke’s public display of devotion.
His words were nothing but hollow gestures, a desperate attempt to uphold a facade already
crumbling.
Upon returning to the Alpha’s den, I summoned the Gamma housekeeper.
“Silver shears,” I commanded.
With steady hands, I took my ceremonial mate’s cloak–woven with moonstone–infused threads, a sacred match to Adeleke’s own–and sliced it apart. Each cut severed a bond once thought unbreakable. The mating decree followed, its ancient script reduced to scattered remnants.
I placed everything inside an ornate chest, its lid engraved with the words: “For Your Second Mating.” As the final piece fell into place, I felt him approach.
His scent, once a comfort, now suffocated me.
-Adeleke’s dark eyes gleamed with warmth as he took my hand.
“Come, my Luna. Your surprise awaits.” In the moonlit courtyard, a Silverwind Alpha chariot stood gleaming, its enchanted obsidian wheels lined with sacred runes.
Two Omega held a banner: “For Our Beloved Luna Lilliana.” Pack members watched as Adeleke presented the crystal key. “You wished for a new chariot last moon cycle. As your mate, your desires are my command.”
My sharpened senses caught the faintest scent clinging to his wrist.
A delicate fabric bracelet, imbued with the unmistakable fragrance of another she–wolf My stomach turned. Betrayal did not always announce itself in grand gestures; sometimes, it lingered in smallest of details.
“What’s wrong?” Adeleke asked, sensing my shift. “Not to your liking?”
“The chariot is beautiful,” I replied smoothly, but it wasn’t the gift I was rejecting. It was him.

Chapter 2
Back in our chambers, Adeleke reached for the ornate chest on the carved wolfwood table. Before he could lift the lid, I pressed my hand over the inscription.
“A surprise for me?” His voice held amusement.
“Yes,” I murmured. “But you’ll have to wait. In seven days, you’ll receive two gifts. Knowing you as I
do, you’ll find them quite fitting.”
“A double surprise?” He frowned, then realization struck. Turning sharply, he issued a command to his Beta. “Seven nights from now is Luna Lilliana’s birthday. Arrange a feast grander than any before. Spare no expense.”
Five years as his mate, and never once had he forgotten my birthday. Until Martyna returned.
Later, Adeleke’s Beta reached out again. “Alpha, do not forget to take Luna Lilliana to Maple Forest tomorrow. It is tradition.”
“Right,” Adeleke said absently. “This is where we first met and I’ll remember to go.”
The words cut deeper than they should have. Maple Forest. The place where we met, where stolen glances turned into a bond destined by the Moon Goddess herself. Five years of anniversaries spent at that same table, sharing cake and whispered promises. Now, he needed a reminder.
Once we always came to Maple Forest full of love, but this time Adeleke was distracted the whole
time.
He drove me around the forest in his new silver chariot. Members of the wolf pack had already gathered here.
The moment I got out of the car, someone shouted, “Look! Alpha Adelec always brings his Luna here on their anniversary!”
The scent of maple syrup filled the air. The aged guardian wolf of the forest, a wolf who witnessed our love story, smiled at us.
“Ah, my Alpha and Luna. Welcome to the place where your love was born.”
Adelec gripped my waist tightly, a possessive gesture.
We finished the celebration in the moonlight, and the forest guardian brought us maple syrup cake with an ancient inscription on it.
One of the wolves called out to us and asked, “Alpha, after all these years, your loyalty has never
