Chapter 0009
She’d seen enough and played enough games–it was time to meet the person she needed
- to.
The Harlow family happened to be hosting a banquet that evening, giving her the perfect chance to slip in among the guests.
The Wright family and the Harlow family, one in the south and one in the north, were known as the twin titans of their regions.
But compared to Claude, Dylan had it much easier.
Though Dylan had lost his parents at a young age, Grace had provided him and Diana with love and stability.”
Claude, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky.
His parents were still alive, yet he lived like an orphan–because he wasn’t the child they’d hoped would survive.
In the quiet back garden of the Harlow estate, Suzy finally saw him again–the man she hadn’t seen in three years.
He sat alone in a wheelchair, his presence as solitary and desolate as the first time they
met.
The sight stirred something in Suzy, making her instinctively want to approach him.
“Claude…” she called softly.
At the sound of her voice, the man’s head jerked up, his eyes wide in disbelief as he looked at the girl standing just a few feet away. “Suzy?”
“No… it can’t be…” Claude let out a bitter laugh, immediately dismissing the thought.” Suzy died three years ago. This is just another illusion.”
The sight of him like this tugged painfully at Suzy’s heart.
She stepped closer, knelt down beside him, and gently took one of his hands, pressing it to
her cheek. “Claude, I’m so sorry for making you worry for three years.”
The warmth of her skin made his eyes turn red. “It’s really you?”
Suzy’s eyes, too, filled with emotion. “It’s me.”
“You’re alive… After all these years, you’re still alive…” Claude reached out and pulled her tightly into his arms. “My Suzy… you’re really alive.”
Suzy didn’t resist, letting him hold her.
Chapter 0009
Three years had passed, but his embrace was just as warm as she remembered.
After a long moment, Claude finally let go, still staring at her face, unchanged from his
memories.
He could hardly believe she was really there. “Where have you been all these years?”
There was no way Suzy could tell him about her time with Dylan.
“Three years ago, someone tried to take me out, so I used the opportunity to lure them out of hiding. But even after all this time, that person still hasn’t shown themselves–they’re hiding even deeper now.”
She shifted the conversation away from herself “And you? How have these past three years been for you?”
Claude gave a self–deprecating smile. “What do you think? Look at me. Things haven’t been good, and they’re only going to get worse from here.”
“What do
you mean?”
Suzy could sense something behind his words.
But Claude brushed her concern aside, changing the subject. “What are you planning to do next? Are you going to keep digging?”
Suzy’s expression grew serious, but instead of answering, she asked, “Claude, do you still have the Scarlet Veil I gave you back then?”
“Of course,” he replied immediately.
Suzy carefully studied Claude’s expression, looking for any sign of deceit, but found none. So, Anne’s poisoning was indeed unrelated to him, just as she had suspected.
He had no reason to be involved, especially since he hadn’t even known she was alive for the past three
years. If he had known, given his temper, he would have undoubtedly sought justice for her once he realized the extent of the betrayal.
But if it wasn’t him, then who poisoned Anne? And why?
Suzy didn’t linger at the Harlow estate for long–there were too many people around, too many watchful eyes.
She certainly didn’t expect to run into Dylan on her way out.
Worse, he had already spotted her and was now closing in, following quickly behind.
