Chapter 11
After limping out of the hospital, Bella came across a homeless man asking for money. Nonchalantly, she tossed him the gold card that Alpha Xavier had given her. The man looked at it in disbelief, and as she was about to leave, Bella told him, “There’s no password or limit. Use it as you wish!”
Watching him cautiously but excitedly make his way to a nearby ATM, Bella felt a small amount of relief wash over her. The anger that had been building like a storm inside her dissipated a little. “So, Alpha Xavier, you want to flaunt your wealth? Let’s see you do it now!” she thought to herself.
She hailed a taxi and started her journey home. Because of injuries she had sustained in the car accident, she was unable to work the next day. When she called Alpha Carl Trevor to ask for leave, he answered, his voice laced with sarcasm. “Bella Moonshadow, are you becoming undisciplined because I allowed you to go home early yesterday?”
“No, Alpha Carl. My hands and legs are really injured,” she tried to clarify.
“From the sound of your voice, you don’t seem injured. As long as you can get up, you should come to work immediately, even if you have to crawl here.”
With that, Alpha Carl hung up, leaving Bella frustrated and feeling cornered. She decided to endure his mood swings as she needed to work under him. She reluctantly accepted her circumstances and headed to the pack’s main office.
Entering Alpha Carl’s office, she found him leaning back in a chair, on a phone call. He looked taken aback when he noticed her limping in, her hand bandaged. “Are you really injured or just pretending?” he asked brusquely.
“I’m genuinely injured!” she retorted.
“Well, come here and let me verify!” Alpha Carl commanded rudely. She lowered her head and made her way hobbling towards him. He grabbed her hand and began unwrapping the bandage. Once he saw her wounds, he finally believed her.
“Why are you so reckless? Getting injured again so soon after your dispute at the celebration?”
Was he even serious? “I also had no intention of it happening this way,” she mumbled, her eyes lowered in resignation.
Standing so close to Alpha Carl, Bella couldn’t help but catch the scent of his pheromones. Suddenly, Alpha Carl seemed intrigued. He had never shown any interest in her, whom Alpha Zachary had forcefully made his assistant. But as they stood face to face that day, there was a noticeable shift.
Alpha Carl curiously studied her fair, slender fingers. As she stood before him, head bowed, he took note
of her slender neck and glowing skin.

Chapter 11
“What am I thinking? Have I become so desperate to notice such an ordinary she–wolf?” he wondered. He recalled how, since the first day, she had never once looked him in the eyes, always keeping her head low and maintaining utmost respect.
Alpha Carl had always been surrounded by endless admiring she–wolves. But here she was, unfazed by his charm. This realization instantly put him off.
“Raise your head up!” Alpha Carl commanded her roughly.
With her head low, Bella replied softly, “Alpha Carl, let me know if you need anything.”
He seemed offended by her unintended defiance. Enraged, he gripped her chin and forced her to raise her head. As she unwillingly met his gaze, he was taken aback by her eyes, their beauty catching him by surprise.
“Curses, Alpha Zachary!” Alpha Carl cursed under his breath. Why was he cursing Zachary all of a sudden? Her chin ached from his grip, but she asked, suppressing her anger, “Alpha Carl, please, can you let go?”
“Let go? Of course, but only if you promise something to me.”
Curbing her rising frustration, she asked, “What is it?”
