I shook my head gently, trying to get out all the wild thoughts that my wolf was trying to pollute my mind with. I tried to concentrate on the present and my desk that was piled high with files. I pulled out only one and focused on it, from the outside, it looked like just another file waiting to be signed and sent off but the important content within its pages told a completely different story.
When I had started on this path to take on such a huge responsibility I had always thought it wise to have something to fall back on, so that in case something happened I wouldn’t be completely lost. Nobody else knew about this file and although I knew that I needed to change that soon just for emergency reasons, I was pretty content with just leaving things the way they were at the moment.
A part of the file detailed what I did in summary every week and once I began scribbling on that part, I didn’t stop until I was sure I had covered most events that had occurred including Jessy’s arrival. While it seemed easier to just do the work on my computer, I found it safer to keep it in a file so that I didn’t have to put too much effort into hiding.
There was no fear of losing a password or a file or of certain corruptions happening to the file while I’m away.
Once I finished with that, I began sorting through other business files. This was the part of the job that I hated the most. Managing the finances of this pack I came with different levels of challenge, there was a time when it wasn’t much, there were not a lot of businesses to manage and the people were even fewer making it easier to keep records. Now everything was expanding. More businesses, more people. It was scary, but I was determined to take it one day at a time.
I worked till midnight before deciding that some sleep would do me some more food than trying to push myself to keep going. I stood up from my seat and stretched as far as was reasonable, before organizing my desk and making my way out of the space.
The moment I opened my room door, the darkness within the room shocked me. The only thing I could immediately see that had light was the clock on my nightstand. I finally moved towards the bed turning on the lights by the nightstand, filling the room with a warm but dim glow.
