Chapter 242

Anbur’s POV

Are you okay?Lila asked from my side and I cleared my throat, clenching and unclenching my fist, trying to get myself to stay focused on the road in front of me

Of course, I am. Why do you ask?I responded, taking my eyes off the road for a couple of seconds to throw a smile her way

Well for one, you’ve not said a word to me in thirty minutes, you keep clenching and unclenching your fists, you look stiff and like you’re about to snap something in half, and let’s not forget how you treated in your house a couple of nights ago.” She said and I sighed heavily trying to get all my raging emotions under control

Look Lila, I’m sorry okay. Things have just been getting overwhelming for me lately and I’m just trying to find a balance. I’m trying to find the best middle ground for everything.”

So I have been overwhelming? What did I do?She asked and I sighed heavily, rolling my eyes

That was the thing with Lila, she was always a pain in my butt. She didn’t know when to do anything, stay quiet, contribute, attack, defend. It was always about her no matter what and that attitude always managed to upset the shit out of me

Let’s just drop it, okay?”

She was about to respond but her phone dinged with a text and she picked it up, smiling as she read through whatever message had been sent. The action made me curious, but I didn’t have to wait for too long and I didn’t have to ask because soon she was turning the screen my way

It was a picture of Stephen and Jessy. They were both making silly faces but it didn’t take away from how good the picture turned out to be

Don’t they just look cute together? Oh! I’m rooting for them so badly! Jessy needs a man in her life!Lila said and I sighed

once more

No, she doesn’t.”

What? Why would you say that? Yes, she does and it’s great that she’s settling down here and she’s trying to build something with Stephen. At least we both trust him and we know he’s the perfect guy for her.Lila said as she began typing a response

I pulled the car into my driveway, rubbing at my eyes. I was exhausted and truthfully I needed some good sleep

Thank you so much for dinner Arthur. Although you were a spoilsport and remained quiet for the majority of it, it was still thoughtful of you to arrange something that beautiful for us. Sometimes, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.” Lila responded and I turned to offer her a smile

A genuine one this time, before leaning in to kiss her. We both stepped out of the car afterwards and as Lila made her way to the kitchen, I made my way to the small home office. There was still a lot of work that I needed to sort through and I knew that pushing it off for the night would end up doing more harm than good for me

Besides, there was something about working on a project in solitude and without the usual interruptions that came with working at the main office that was very calming to me. It allowed me to think and even brainstorm sometimes while still covering up piles and piles of work. Although, as I settled down on my desk this time my mind immediately wandered to things I’d rather forget about Jessy

Lately, it had been hard to concentrate because no matter what I did, I always found myself drifting off in thoughts about her. Tonight had been harder in particular because when she had pulled open the door earlier it had felt as if my breath was stuck in my throat. She looked gorgeous

Growing up, Jessy had never really leaned toward the feminine side of fashion. I couldn’t remember a time when her lips

had been all glossed up and shiny like the way they were earlier tonight. She also had a weird way of completely covering up her body in subtle ways like baggy shirts and jeans and it always made me question because at some point, I had seen her body and I knew what it looked like without all the layers of clothes protecting it

And it was perfect. Even if the incident had been a mistake, it was still on the list of my top most beautiful mistakes and there was not a part of me that regretted walking into her room that particular day. Although, we had been younger Jessy’s strong Alpha genes had always been good to her. She hit puberty earlier than the rest of us and she owned the shit out of it. I could only imagine what her wolf looked like and how strong it had turned out to be
